New Machine - Overclocked AMD 64 3000+ with Value Crucial RAM

What do you think ... got the MoBo, CPU and RAM from NewEgg this week only.

The exact MoBo is the EPoX 9NPA-Ultra set with 1.7 volts to CPU and 2.9 Volts to RAM (set through BIOS). The RAM is two sticks of Crucial's CT12864Z40B.M16FD not the .16T
NOTE: SpeedFan is showing Vcore as 1.63V though.

Using 3DMark05 with my video card (eVGA 7800 GTX set at 480MHz CPU and 1375MHz RAM) I got a rating of 8743

Setting are:
CPU Clock Speed 2655.4 MHz
DRAM Frequency 241.4 MHz

Using CPU.Z v1.30 I got the info below and am 'torture' testing now using Prime95 -- the Temps according to SpeedFan are as follows:
TEMP1: 38C
TEMP2: 47C
TEMP3: 19C
HD0: 29C

This is at 100% load. When normal load (essentially just web browsing etc the TEMP2 drops to 36-38C degrees).

Kirbymixmasta -- They are correct ... I am using a XP90 with a ThermalTake SilentCat 90mm fan on top of it.

Damn we have pretty similar systems. My temps never hit 50c even under full load and a night of Prime. Sweet system there wish I had the 7800.

Yea, not bad. But you spent alot on the Gfx card to piar with an old 3000+ and a less-than-stellar mobo.

Well if you look at his OC... he has just about a FX55 off of a $130 proc... not too shabby if you ask me

Safeway -- I got the 7800GTX since I didn't have a card at all (Mac at home before) so I picked it up for 490 bucks. Also I am running at 1920x1200 at all times ... so I figured with the higher resolution and cranking up the AA and all it would help ... and it has ... since I played with a 6800 also for a while to compare.

FreeThrownTommy -- I kinda figured I'd buy a cheapo processor first with cheapo RAM ... and have a little fun and play with it ... if it OC'ed (as it has seemed to have done) well ... good and well for me and I'd play my games on it and enjoy it on the 'cheap' for the time being until I wanted or needed more ... at that point I could get a X2 series chip and just drop it in.

Kethup79 ... I was playing around late last night in trying to find the values I needed on the RAM side and was hitting the edge ... but wasn't sure if it was CPU or RAM related issues ... Today I backed the Vcore down from 1.7 back to 1.5 and for the CPU and it's had no issues <grin> ... I'll leave it running on Prime95 overnight to see if it is alright. Been too busy playing around in WoW and BF2. Eventually though even if the cheapo processor does die on me I won't be all torn up about it as I'll have learned a little about OC'ing, etc.

I'll play around with the settings for OC'ing a little more to see if changing the CPU multiplier to 8 instead of 9 that I am currently using and increasing the FSB setting up to at least 325 -- which should give me 2600 on the CPU side with the mem a little slower works .. if it does .. I'll keep bumping the FSB speed up to see if the CPU goes up also ... of course I have to lower the RAM to 133 from 166 but should at 325 FSB be able to get the CPU to 2600 and the RAM to 211 MHz at aleast at 1T 3-3-3-8. After that I'll just keep bumping the FSB up till it craps on me and then apply a little voltage ...

Reason ... If I can get higher CPU speeds I suspect I'll get better framerates in BF2 and this machine is really only for gaming purposes ... where as the incremental increase in the RAM speed might not buy me as much graphics performance ... of course I am probably wrong ... but ... what the hell ... it's fun <grin> ... or at least is for right now ... until I have a smoking and burning hunk of junk on my hands.

That's great. means you've really got a good chip there. I only put 1.6 on my newcastle (.1 over stock) but it still clocks pretty well.
