New machine, no beep or video

Just built a new computer last night. Got it all together and plugged it in. The LED on the p5nsli mobo I got went on. Flipped the switch and all the fans turned on, the HDD started spinning, but nothing else happend. No beep from the internal speaker, no video on the monitor showing Video Card or BIOS details.

So now what? No beep means: Mobo, Power Supply, or Speaker is bad?

The other thing, which I'm guessing I might have done wrong is not installed the CPU correctly. I remember thinking, where's the pins on the CPU? Admittedly I was super tired, so I put it in and locked down the fan. Now at work trying to virtually troubleshoot, I'm guessing I put the freaking CPU in with a cover on or something. Shouldn't there be pins on the back of the CPU?

If that is the case, I'm just going to call myself and idiot and hope everything still works when I get home. I suppose it'd be a funny story to tell my other nerd friends.

Anyone else got any ideas in case that isn't it?

its not ur speakers because you dont get sound or video. it could be your power supply, but make sure that all the cords are plugged in tight.

what processor do you have? there should be a bunch of little pins on the bottom. that lines up with the holes on the board. make sure that the triangle on the cpu lines up with the one on the mobo. if you locked it down, without putting the cpu in right, that could turn out to be a real bad decision. post back with details.

edit: ok its an c2d nvm

My bad, some details of system:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
MOBO: ASUS P5NSLI Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel Motherboard
RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel 1.9v

I definately will keep in touch. Probably made a dumb mistake, but gotta wait till I get home from work to figure out it I did.

I sort of doubt that you put the processor in wrong because unless you put some awful brute force on it, I don't know how you would have gotten the cooler and fan locked down on top of the processor.

BUT if you did, you have probably either bent most all of the pins on the processor or you have bent the latch mechanism on the cooler assembly.

Is this the first computer you have ever built ???

Thanks.

The core 2 duo chips don't have pins on the CPU, just flat points, the pins are in the socket, and the socket is keyed so it's not easy to install it wrong.

I would try some other RAM that is slower/cheaper and on the quality vendor list, some people with the no boot/video problem have made it boot this way on other ASUS boards, but not sure about this particular board. If that works try updating the BIOS if there is a newer version, then try your Corsair RAM again.

Also make sure you have both motherboard power connectors in, the 24-pin and the 4/8-pin. Forgetting the 4/8-pin one could feasibly cause this too.

Yeah, HauntFox is right. I built my Intel Duo machine, and there aren't pins, just the flat points. On one of the corners there is an arrow of somesort, or a mark that will pinpoint where to line up the CPU with the socket. I don't know how to fix the errors, but you could easily put the processor in wrong, w/o breaking it.
