New Machine help!

Building A new machine.....I wanted to get the newest best AMD FX card but would that still beat dual P4 cpu's? Curious of what you guys think...I need all the help possible, I just wanna build best machine possible

I don't think gaming programs utilize a dual cpu setup well at all. For many other tasks coded for Dual cpus help tremdously. Generally the AMD setups are tops in gaming, a hair faster than P4 setups at the same price level. Read more on dual cpus here.

I thought the same thing....but I didnt know whether or not having one whole CPU for gaming and one for other windows programs would perform better then just the one FX for everything. I was partial to geetting an AMD all along but my Dad had mentioned the dual might be better and I wanted to confirm which is the better choice of the two options.

the single athlon fx will beat the p4's. dual cpu's dont make a system perform better in games. it just allows for great multi-tasking.

Pentium4's aren't dual-capable, so that kinda takes care of that. 🙂 AMD doesn't make a "card," but I think you meant "CPU," and the top model of A64FX on the market appears to be the $875 Athlon64 FX53.

yea CPU is what I meant I was thinking video cards while typing that cuz I need to pick that as well. My choice was going to be the FX53 unless the 55 comes out soon

Seriously, I remember when I was a newbie and someone made a remark like that to me. I never forgot that put-down remark, and I never forgot who made it either. :frown: Be nice to the newbie, he may end up useful around here later 😀

actually I have been doing computer stuffs all my life....and I dumb down my talk for these forums so that I actually get some help. I know whats what and I like to do my research before actually going into to something to fast so I like to get opinions from others. I have looked at benchmarks for all this stuff....memory....vid cards....CPU's.....sound cards.....lcd's...motherboards....virtually everything. I am making a top of the line gaming machine and I wanna make sure I pick the right hardwear to go in this. Oh and I do have A dell.....its actually the Dell Ultrasharp LCD 20 inch and I love it ^_^

well, the fx-55 is coming out sometime this fall, so if i were you, i guess i'd wait. but if u cant and you really wanna play the upcoming games, go for it. get the fx-53. since its unlocked, you can always oc the hell out of it beyond fx-55.

well at least I know now that Im gona stick with AMD as the CPU....thanks much....also there are the 2 new vid cards comming out.....ATI or NVIDIA? I have always went ATI and I was thinking going with the X800 but what do you think?

It's a toss-up. They both perform nearly identically overall, but the 6800U has a superior feature-set. I would go with nVidia this round, simply because they innovated more and you get more features for your money IMO.

I have a hard time recommending the FX series, sinmply because they are so expensive, but if you really want "top of the line" they are probably the best choice (the only other is the P4 EE, but man, talk about expensive).

Anyhow, for gaming the Dual CPU doesn't help.

For video cards both ATI and NV have great products for this next generation, so you should be happy with any of the following 4 cards: X800Pro, 6800GT, 6800U, X800XT. I've put them in order from slowest to fastest, although the difference between them is usually pretty small. If you are spending in the $400 range, I think the 6800GT is the best value, and if you move up to the $500 range the X800XT would be my pick. If I were buying now, I'd try to get the 6800GT. They are all great cards though.

-D'oh!

well im not fooling aroung with this machine...hehe...and yea I think I might go with the X800XT after much research. I Appriciate all the help around here

I have heard OZC has come a long way, BUT Corsair is still king in my book.

Also what ever board you choose, go to their web-site and look what Ram they have verfiied works with that board also.

Please donate me some money and I'll give you all the advice you need 😀 lol
Hmm...I'd say grab 2x512mb of the OCZ Enhanced Bandwidth stuff. It's really good. Get the PC3500 variety I suppose, just to keep you set for overclocking should you want to.

yea i gotta really look at the ram.....and hard drives...and motherboard. So much work in making top of the line machine. I was leaning to the OZC but i keep hearing better of corsair so im not sure yet

i actually like ocz better then corsair. ocz and mushkin are my favorite memory makers. i also hear that ocz is better for amd and for overclocking, but i'm not sure about that. its just a rumor i've heard, but corsair is very nice too.
