I finally got my new replacement machine for the the little fire started I had. The previous one had 1 x GTX 295. After a but if fiddling, I manged to get it to crunch 2 GPUGRID work units - I switched of SLI so that it saw the card as 2 GPU's

My current setup not was 2 GTX 295's - in other words 4 GPU's. However, I cannot seem to see more than 2 GPU's. the eVGA precision software seems no different from when I ran it before. Still shows 2 GPU's (I was expecting it to show 4).

Also, BOINC only crunches 1 (or maybe 2) GPUGID WU's. I was expecting it to crunch 4. If I switch SLI on or off, or even the Phyx stuff on or off, no difference.

Can anyone help? I specifically bought the extra card for crunching. Quad SLI is not really worth it, and I am not a big gamer (although I am sure I will love the eye candy!!!)

I have never used a multi gpu computer (neither sli nor crossfire), however I once read that you need to extend the desktop through all cards to get it crunching on all of them.
I jave no idea if that helps or how it works...

I checked the display setting. I get 3 monitors in the window - primary and a 2 and 3. Seems odd if there are 4 plugs / GPU's etc. they are shown as 2 big and one small. The small one is 3 next to the main 1.

- If that makes sense...

What OS you running. If Vista, you can remove all drivers and re-install with both cards in, but if it's XP you might have to put 1 card in and install the drivers, shut down and insert the second card. Then after the drivers are installed by the OS for the second card ( XP), expand your desktop for all for monitors. You might have to put a dummy VGA plug into them in order to Crunch properly if you are using 1 physical monitor.

Yes, I run vista 64. I re-installed last night - OS was installed on an old IDE drive (temp to recover died machines boot drive) - Man was the machine slow. I am using an old AMD Athlon XP 1650MHz for my dose of Internet and it was faster!!!

Anyway, plugged both cards in this morning, installed the nVidia drivers and it sees both cards. I now have 6 monitors in the desktop settings - should it not be 8 then?

HOWEVER: I still only can run 2 instances of GPUGRID. How do I fix that?

I have the Physx enabled and SLI off. Once the next GPUGRID WU completes I will paly with those settings. I know when I only had one GTX 295, I had to switch off SLI for it to see both GPU's. Not sure now.

Does BOINC / GPUGRID use the GPU's in SLI mode to work faster (as it is supposed to do in games) or not?

Is SETI better to run?
