Yeah, die-hard old school Mac users like to think they're "fighting the man", but Apple is one of the biggest corporate whores out there.

+1

If apple users (the majority of them) were more balanced, displayed a less elitist attitude and didn't look down on (for my money a more logical infrastructure) MS/Windows then I'd be more inclined to get a MAC again.

The majority of people who had mac's who I've met over the years are always first to point out to me that they were so glad they got rid of windows and how superior this pretty little box was, the pretty little box in question was a MAC air from last week.

I pointed out to the fellow student that this didn't have a DVD/Bluray drive, he couldn't overclock it, no Ethernet, he wouldn't be able to render and animate to his liking because of its lack of speed and that his obsession with COD4 wouldn't ever grace this machine .

I asked what he got it for, he just said because he wanted it, couldn't tell me the reasoning.

Sad thing is he's blown all his student loan on this....But I spose apple is a region to some

Yup. Apple fanboys suffer from two problems:

1. Elitist attitude
2. Lack of understanding that Apple is a corporation and doesn't care about you

I love Apple machines, but I hate the elitist attitude a lot of dyed-in-the-wool Mac users have. It's just like talking to a Linux fanboy. The funny part is they don't understand that Apple doesn't care a lick for them...Apple is simple a giant corporation with very, very good marketing. I learned this the hard way when I bought an iPhone for $600 and they dropped the price by $200 a few weeks later. Seriously, what kind of company does that? Not one that really cares about their customers...they could have at least waited 6 months or until Christmas to make the pricedrop.

It's the same deal with their laptop upgrades. Apple has pushed Firewire since Day 1, and now their 13" model - the only one most people can afford - no longer has it. All that Firewire crap they pushed is useless and obsolete on that laptop. No more connecting your Firewire Camcorder, Hard Drives, Audio Interfaces, and Scanners. All that pro-level and prosumer equipment we bought = no workie now. Apple won't give us the 12" Powerbook equivalent that everyone loved before, but now they'll give us good graphics on the 13" model with no way to hook up our camcorders. Throw us a bone and put in a tiny Firewire 800 port, Apple.

Apple doesn't care about the average user; they only care about making money. There's nothing in the rulebook that says you can't support your users in the face of progress. They can do whatever the heck they want. And they chose to be the mean kid and kick sand in our eye.

Love the products and the community, not the company.

"Love the products and the community, not the company."

I agree, and with everything in your post. I use Macs because it's my preference, not from some allegiance to Apple Inc.

I want to love Apple - I really do - but they just make it so dang hard. Crazy iPhone pricedrops, horrendous laptop prices, no Mac Pro Lite, no Firewire on the 13" model despite adding a killer video card, no Mini updates for years, lots of stupid stuff that just says they don't care beans about their end-users. This is why I got an EFI-X chip - I can do Leopard my way instead of their way.

I went with Apple because, as I have said in the past, it was the cheapest option at the time considering;
A: What I got for the money
B: What I was going to do with the machine

You can't help but feel movies like this will only serve to create tension and represent some apple users in a negative light..

Who sits on a bench hugging their mac ? I could pretty much guarantee the people who appear in that trailer absolutely detest windows, the extreme fanboys really put me off apple. My rig is probly 3 times faster then that Imac (was it ?) but I'm not going to sit outside freezing my ass off hugging it. I really enjoyed building my rig and dual booting with Ubuntu.

I'm sure there apple users out there who love their choice but shut up about it or at least appreciate that windows has a place in the market, there seems to be an elitist attitude, a snobbery if you will with the mac users I have met.

I can't help but feel that's how apple wants it's users, the sales team in my local apple store are very aggressive and every time they try to sell to me they ask why windows. Once a sale guy told me that my IT career was suffering and that my choices for choosing windows was because I was scared of learning a new interface. I lost my temper and said " Yeah but I'm not gay so stop wasting your time", perhaps a tasteless comment by myself but that's what I'm brought to when I'm faced with the religion.

The last mac I had was a G5, I may try and get a Vm of lep in the near future but Im completely put off by the attitude of apple and some-most of their users..

Plus aesthetics aside I couldn't justify it with the extra cost.

Steve Jobs once said " For Apple to win, Microsoft doesn't have to lose ", perhaps this was a good statement at the time with the deal just cut, but it's completely the opposite mindset of most apple users and the company it's self.

i always buy the most used mac for the $$ i can find.
until recently, was using a G4 digital audio with a 1 GHz upgrade card.
found an imac 17in 2.0 ghz core 2 duo for $600, compared going rates, and bought it.
not the fastest or newest, but it's what i could afford.
buying macs on the cheap can be done, but it's not always easy.
