Actually, that would be a slick replacement. I really want the black keyboard, as my silver one gets dirty. I don't eat with it, or anything, but I usually have to clean the keys alot. It's something that I don't notice with my fullsize apple keyboard, so it's very odd.

I'd love to have the low profile LCD, and the slimmer bottom (although I'm not sure that that will be doable with the advancements in internals. The new MBP design would need to be as powerful as the current line and I don't know how much smaller they can make it and still keep performance up.

Nice look though! :)

i can't see the bottom being that thin, which is fine with me, my mbp is thin enough already.

No the macbook pro should focus more on dispursing heat as they should be focused on working as a portable workstation. i have a mac pro at home and work with a macbook at work and I feel like i am always limited by how hot the thing gets (im always worried about it). The macbook pros should have better cooling. with how thin that thing looks i don't see much in the way of cooling.

The macbook and macbook pro do get quite warm, but except in incredibly rare cases is it cause for actual alarm. At idle mine sits around 55-60C (which on my old desktop would have me freaking out) and only gets to 70C on load when I am being stupid and have it on my mattress while it is encoding.

The MacBook Pro feels a lot warmer due to the aluminum construction, but does not get significantly hotter in terms of CPU temps.

I'm more worried about the long term effects of the computers getting so hot and the fact that those little fans tend to die a intensely loud death. I'm also a sound effects editor by trade and am probably more sensitive to the noise then most people.

Speaking of heat on macbook pro's, is it me or does the macbook pro get more hot when using Windows XP? Its reasonably warm in OSX but I noticed its more hot and the fan is louder because of it in XP. Anyone else notice this?

For whatever reason, XP can't seem to control the fans. So, they are either on or off. There are no speed settings (however invisible to the user they may be) as there are in OS X.

I'm really jonesing for this thing to be released and enticing mockups like these aren't helping. I'm perfectly happy with just a penryn processor update - all these fancy changes would be a nice extra.

Too bad that rendering would smash the keys into the LCD if the lid were ever closed.

I hope so too, I've been patiently waiting for apple to release a new MBP so I can decide if I want that or a MB

The only difference between this and a current MBP is the smooth top... (unless you consider black keys a huge difference) anything else would require removing the ethernet and DVI ports at least, as they take up pretty much the whole height of the MBP.

Short of removing some of the lesser used components and/or giving it a smaller battery with less longevity just to make it lightweight, I think the MBP is as good as it's going to get right now.

Essentially if you're going to start taking away features, you might as well not stop and then you have the macbook air. AFAIC, the MBP isn't about being ultra-portable or an on-the-go notebook, it's about a notebook that can also double as a main workstation.

The new MacBook Pro... Same as the old MacBook Pro...

Except with a newer processor and multi-touch trackpad.
