New Mac user needs help...

I know better than to post this in OT, but I am anxious to learn my new computer. I bought a used Imac (G3 266) with OS X loaded and I want to learn how to operate it well. Like how to toggle between IE windows, how to maximize (I mean fully maximize not just click on the + button) how to drag to the desktop so I can open a program from there.. etc. Are there any good sites to go to? I'd also like to know of some good freeware as well.

There is no true maximize button on a Mac like there is on Windows. The + button will make the window only as big as it needs to be. This prevents windows from taking up unneccessary space.

If you want a window to be bigger then pull on the lower right hand corner and you can adjust the size. clicking the "+" button will then toggle the window between it's current size and it's previous size.

macrumors.com is a good Mac sight w/a nice forum.
versiontracker.com is a good place to find free/shareware.

And by dragging to the desktop are you wanting to make an alias (aka a shortcut in windows terms)? If you want to put an alias in the Dock just drag the programs icon to the dock. If you want to put one on the desktop I think you can control+click the icon and select "make alias" or something. Also, the "help" feature in OS X is usually much better than "help" in Windows so you can always look up "alias" in help if what I said is wrong and/or doesn't make sense. 😉

Careful, lots of anti-mac zealots around here.

Alt+~ toggles between multiple program windows. Alt+TAB toggles between programs.

This one will be handy for lock-ups: Control+Option+Open Apple+Escape force quits a locked program.

There is no Open Apple any more; there hasn't been since the last Apple-line machine. With Macs, it's simply "Apple," "Command," or "CMD".

What is the best OS to run on my machine? It is an Imac G3 266 mhz. OS X is slow.... I need to find something else.

I forgot to mention I only have 96MB of RAM. And it's an Imac so from what I have heard it is really difficult to install new RAM. With only 96MB what is the best OS?
