Straight from a Mac site showing the the new Mac Pro having trouble pulling away from a Dual core P4:

http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/macpro/benchmarks.html

Of course if Steve Job's says it's faster, then it must be true, eh?

nd universal apps, now common, have long since resolved that for most apps. There are holdouts, but see above for the speed comparison.

I guess Photoshop isn't on that list.

Dell's 1950 is ... not that competitive ... compared to some of Apple's hardware.

Again, Apple users show a near sexual obsession with Dell. Most of the big server farms in my area aren't using Dell's, and nobody raves about the X-serve other than Apple sites. I build my own corporate servers and save about a grand, but you can't do that with Apple because you are only allowed to run OSX on hardware Steve Jobs says you can.

Obviously the phrase "universal binary" was lost on you. The article even points out that fact. Why would you make such a misleading 'point'?

You build your own corporate servers? That's funny. And you then knock Apple hardware? :)

Uh, actually it is, or you couldn't run windows on it. I bet you think the Apple servers are made in California as well.

Which brings me to another question. Why is it that Apple users have been bad mouthing Intel and Microsoft for over a decade, then jump up and down about an Intel based server kicking the **** out of platforms barely a year ago Apple.Com said was faster than Intel?

And you wonder why you have absolutley no credibility in the IT industry.

No, it isn't a garden variety Intel clone with an Apple BIOS. Your suggestion that it must be since it runs Windows belies all the work that people had to do (including Apple) to get XP SP2 to boot on the machine. EFI firmware is NOT the same as the PC's BIOS.

I'm fully aware Macs aren't made in Cali, and wonder why anyone would think they are.

Facts are facts - configure a 1950 and tell us how it fares.

I'm sure they're mass produced, and they're probably made in China or Malaysia, but did you have a point? Do you think these are bog-standard Intel 975/965 chipset boards, or what, exactly, are you suggesting?

Be as technical as you're able. :)

I'd rather have a X6800 and X1900XT Crossfire system with 4gb of RAM rather than the Mac Pro with 16gb of RAM

Quite right - doubt anyone sees the Mac as a gaming system - most see it as a workstation. They're targeting Dell's workstation market.

hey guys, isn't it more expensive if a PC is built with same specs as the Mac pro, as you have to get a mother board with 2 slots for the CPU. And also, to find a mother board with the capability of actually slots for 16GB of memory....???

Come on... every one knows that MAC's are for video/music/photo editing and PC for more business oriented because PCs are cheaper....cost effictive from a business man point of view.

----------
Back to the MAC Pro topic...

I think i like them as I do a lot of video editing and FINAL CUT pro is one of the best non-linear video editing software out in the market and can't deny the fact that it only RUNS ON MAC and it also makes life much eaiser...than PC.

I also like the fact that you can run windows... and i am sure with quad core speed should not be a factor.

Big mac

Because HPC isn't serious work. And Final Cut Pro is some lame ass software right?

It's a matter of choosing the appropriate tool for the job. If you don't like macs, that's fine. There are plenty of reasons not to like them. But spouting trivial BS is weak.

i thought this was a discussion on hardware, not mac software?
