I know there are enclosures available that support 2 SATA drives in RAID 0, with Firewire 400, 800 and USB 2.0

I am pretty sure that Disk Utility on OS X will let you software RAID drives, but i'm not positive about that.

I've found the range to be superb. But I'm out in the sticks here and there isn't another wireless router around for blocks.

I wont go with apple tv just yet. I have a HD DVR which serves its purpose...I dont spend all that much time watching movies.

Is the airport extreme easy to configure for file sharing programs such as utorrent?

Well for your situation - wired iMac, wifi printer - I would just stick with the Linksys, which is a quality router, and put your two 500gb drives in RAID 1 (Mirroring). Here's a quickie guide on Apple's site:

http://docs.info.apple.com/art...y/10.5/en/duh1013.html

Or you do striping or concatenated if you prefer. Now that I understand a bit better about your setup I'd just skip the Airport Express.

How would I go about putting the 2 external drives in RAID? Do enclosures support 2 hard drives? The linksys router has been working great for the past 3 years or so. I could just connect the enclosure to the iMac via FW.

Get two enclosures, put one drive in each enclosure, and then use Disk Utility to do a software RAID on them. That's all there is to it :) Alternatively you can just get a RAID enclosure like TheStu said, but the cost is significantly more:

Newertech makes quality stuff, I used to have a MiniStack V2 when the Mini was my primary computer.

If I do go ahead and buy that enclosure will it work OK with the iMac and Time Machine?

I have some real beef with their design on that and the V1... the V2's aluminum heatsink just sits flush on the ground, I'm not comfortable with that. The V1.. I could not get my PATA drives to fit well at all. I was set to RMA it, but in a bout of frustration broke it, heh.

But i put little feet on the V2 and love it. Shuts down when I shut down the computer, which is really nice vs. my other enclosure. Fan is loud though when it kicks on, and a bit pricey.

The v3 looks nice w/ eSATA.. but blasted integrated iMac.. why oh why did I think I could get away with it.. heh

Yup, it will act like any other drive, except with the security of RAID.

Yeah, my only problem with the V2 was the fan noise. It wasn't overly loud, but I was working in a very quiet environment at the time and wanted as quiet of a computer as possible.

I still use my old V2 that I used to use with my mac mini, but I now use it with my PC. Still works perfectly even though it hides behind my pc now instead of being sat on by a mac.
