New Mac Pro models next Tuesday?

Whatever processor they put in it, it'll have some seriously badass config options, yet only come with a best video card option that is three generations old.

pffft

It will only be two generations old!

In all seriousness, I wonder if they would bump up the MBP's on the same day as well....

Honestly I think they're going to go the Xeon route as they cannot use a dual CPU setup with just desktop processors. However there being 6 physical cores, they might just do one model.

I think that they will have to do something major if they want to keep with the whole 'Do you need more power than your office has room for?' ideal with the Mac Pro. As it stands right now the 27" iMac is pretty damn powerful, the Mac Pro only has it beat in ridiculously multithreaded apps, RAM, and hard drives. But for a few people that would have bought the Mac Pro the iMac is enough. I can't imagine that the market for the Mac Pro is all that big to begin with.

But, yea, if they were to drop a pair of 6 core Xeons in there (with HT so an additional 12 virtual threads) with some sort of obscene RAM cap, SSD standard and a more recent GPU then they can put it back on top.

There's still a need for MacPro's in the High End Pro market. However, in the prosumer range, the iMac is incredible.
