New M5 exhaust sounds Hondaliscious.

No Lifer
Someone working in the suite next to us has one and everytime he drives by my window it sounds like a riced out Honda exhaust...at parking lot speeds anyway. I'm sure it sounds better out on the road when you open it up...then again, maybe it sounds like a Honda at higher revs too. 😛

Thats funny; I've been told my Honda sounds like an M5

That's a shame. A guy at my daughters daycare has an E39 M5 and that thing is very mean and throaty...like a V8 should be.

Did moving to a V10 make that much of a difference?

Yeah, the V10 has more of a scream to it, especially up above 8000rpm. It's not nearly as nice as a Carrera GT, but its character is in the same vein (minus the weightless flywheel, unfortunately). The last gen V8, unfortunately, is much more pedestrian sounding.

My friend had an m3 supercharged and it too sounded high and not a low as I would have thought.

There are plenty of youtube videos, see for yourself. I think it sounds bad fuckin ass, not at all like a fart can exhaust.

There was a guy who came by HRE Wheels a couple months ago with a black Carrera GT with mods (exhaust being one of them) and that car sounded like a Formula One race car. It was freaking loud and he was giving some of the HRE guys laps of the building in it. He even did a few smokey donuts in the back lot with it!

I need this car. I actually need it. :Q

I?ve never been a huge fan of Porsches, but this is something else!

Somebody wanna explain to me the fascination with really really really high-pitched whiny engine noises? Because I just don't understand it.

Many of the highest performance engines out there are able to survive at high RPM, especially those that are made for more than just the quarter mile. Those that do tend to have high pitched exhaust/engine characteristics.

Those that can appreciate the sound of a well tuned high rpm engine as well as those who can appreciate the sound of a lower reving big block are well rounded performance enthusiasts.

There's a portion of the population that can only appreciate one or the other. This usually happens early in an enthusiast's lifetime, and the blinders come off as they become more experienced. In other words, as they mature, most learn to appreciate the other end too. A small minority of others though, are sadly caught in their own myopic little worldview.

Don't get me wrong, I like high revving performance engines, I just don't care for the high-pitched zingy sportbike sound they make. High pitched noises hurt my ears and set my nerves on end.
