New Low to Midrange Build - Looking for Advice

Hey all, I'm not sure if this is my first post, at least the first in a LONG time, but I'm here all the time checking things out. So, I have a few questions to ask about a new build to go off to college again after I've been out of the loop for a couple of years. I had pretty much decided on:
Mobo - A8N-SLI Premium (~$150 @ Newegg)
CPU - Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (~140 or so @ Newegg)

So my first question is should I go ahead with this for a pretty cheap build, I'm not an intense gamer, but I like playing a lot. I'm not looking to be on the edge of technology here, just something to have fun with. Should I stick with the socket 939 or go for AM2 and get some DDR2?? I've read a few people saying that it doesn't matter that much, but is there a good board for socket AM2 around $100-150 or so??

Also, the other big question I have is how much big of a PSU would I need for this config -
2 DVD Drives/Radeon 1800 or so/1 HD/all the usual devices and such. I'm not looking to spend a ton on a PSU, and yes, I realize you get what you pay for...so what is the lowest good quality PSU I could for?

Thanks for all the help!!
