Vivendi-Universal brings Middle-earth to life with Tolkien?s Fellowship of the Ring
?Everything else in the games works because we translate the entirety of the first leg of the Fellowship?s journey to the game world, from Bag End to the climax at the River Anduin. This required thousands of lines of dialogue, top-notch full-motion video sequences, and careful adherence to the central plot line of Fellowship of the Ring. Equally important was making sure that all of the central characters and enemies ? Tom Bombadil and Goldberry, Lobelia and Lotho Sackville-Baggins, Old Man Willow, the Barrow Wight, the Balrog, and many more ? all made appearances in the game.

?Beyond the story, realism was the major driving force. We set out to create more than just a game: instead, we wanted to create a living, breathing Middle-earth that players could be a part of.?

LOTR Preview

The game and the DEMO is available now

Sweet. I thought this was an Xbox only game. Perfect for the PC (or PS2).

Nice! But the screenshots I saw didn't make me think Middle Earth though (nothing will beat MUME for me)

You are thinking of another developer - that game's name is "The Two Towers" (and it covers Vols. 1 & 2); not for PC (so screw them). :D

Nope. I saw that one on Extended Play on TechTV, it's based on the movie. Does not look very good. The three LOTR games will follow the books. I saw the videos on EP and it looks great. Very nice artistic style. Original artwork, nothing to do with the films.

It comes out the same day as GTA:VC though!!! Bawwwww.

Yeah I'm not exactly how the computer games are being made

I know Fellowship is being made for a lot of systems and is due out Q4 as stated

but there is another game (Two Towers) that I think is ONLY for the PS2 which sucks and I don't understand. Why would they make the first for all systems and the second (and I think third as well) for only one. No sense at all.

No, there are two franchises. One is a series of games based on the books which will be on all systems (the good one). The other is a adaption of the films (it's only two games, TTT & ROTC) and it's only for the PS2.

So all systems get the good series, the PS2 also gets a crappy movie adaptation.

I'm more pumped about GTA:VC than any game based on LOTR.

meh... yeah I'd really like to play Vice city but I don't have a PS2 so it'll have to wait a few months. Plus us PC owners have a better version of the GTA series anyway. Its called Mafia and it 0wnz j00

I wonder what "engine" they are using. As to "cartoony" they did mention "animated" verses "capture motion".

Who cares, IMO . . . it's the gameplay I'm after . . . and LOTR . . . looks like my first NEW game purchase since RtCW. Due out October 22nd for PC!

Their forums are interesting . . . so much so, I am almost late for work. :(

From the developer:
I think our minimum supported specs are going to be in the 400mhz range, 256MB and a Geforce 2-ish card. For the first crop of games.

Don't hold me to that, but those are probably right in the right spot for min specs.

Recommended specs will be bigger.

If I was to go buy a gaming PC to last me a couple of years, I'd pick up at least a 1500mhz, 512MB of RAM and a Geforce 4TI. That'd be groovy.
I upgraded this weekend to a new Radeon 8500 128MB DDR Retail ($129 at CompUSA). I'm set. :)

Heh, you mean that crappy UK game? I stumbled upon the rom, tried it for about 5 minutes, and then never looked back at it. What was it actually like?

Fun as hell, especially with 3 friends (you could play up to 4 players mutliplayer if you used that SNES multi-tap adapter. pretty damn sweet

Wonder what ever happened to the MMORPG. Was announced in 1998, then when Sierra did restructuring, they never said anything about it. I assume it was scrapped.

Will the PC version be identical to the Xbox version? If so.... :( I rented the Xbox version and wasn't impressed at all. The gameplay was decent in some parts, but the quests were ridiculous. There is only ~10 hours of gameplay...graphics are pretty mediocre...they fly through the story faster than a bullet...

Big disappointment. With something like LOTR, they should put the game into the hands of a capable company. it deserves way, way better. The upcoming "Two Towers" game for PS2 looks really cool and at least they admit that they are concentrating on pure action....too bad it's only PS2 though. I just have an Xbox and the PC.

Evidently not. I didn't realize the X-box version of this game was out yet. . . . From my original link:
?Xbox, on the other hand, required the largest amount of work as far as asset creation. Almost all of the assets (apart from the GBA) were created for that platform.

?About 3/4 of the way through the XBox project the PS2 and PC versions were split off onto separate products. This early split made them their own unique games, and the resulting games have surprisingly different flavors to them ? even though each faithfully recreates the story.

"Since we started with the XBox, it required the lion's share of the work and most of the initial design and technology issues were dealt with on that platform.?
