WHY?! I love this magazine and have a subscription. They have changed the look and gone from being the best magazine for food to just the typical trash that you find on the counter at the grocery store.

I googled it and apparently the "new look" is permanent, and is the result of a new editor in cheif who decided that the magazine needed to tap into popular culture. Gwenyth paltrow graces the cover this month, not that I have anything against her but she nor any other celebrity belongs on the cover of Bon Appetit.

They are a business and the purpose of a business is to generate a profit, so I'm sure in their calculations this was seen as a revenue generator. But I think they are going to lose their core audience and the thing that made them special in the first place.

uh, Gwyneth Paltrow is a rather well-known cook. She has many pals that are serious chefs who completely respect her. (Batali, for example)

she also has a cookbook out. so, yes, she belongs on Bon Appetit.

I got rid of Bon Appetite years ago when Conde Nast decided to make it a magazine of advertisements with things about food scattered here and there. I have issues going back to the late 80's and the difference between then and now is incredible. Once CN bought them they changed emphasis over time, killed Gourmet with the advertising burden then put all of it into BA. I'm surprised it still exists.

Cooks Illustrated and Food and Wine are what I get these days.

She may be a fantastic chef and run in all of the cooking circles, but that doesn't change the fact that neither she nor Batali nor anyone else would ever have graced the cover of Bon Appetit in the past. The magazine was entirely about the food.

Oh, I see your point. Fair enough.

did Ruth Reichl move from Gourmet to Bon Appetit after they folded? kind of fucked up that CN is to blame for all of this--as they truly are.

CN is no different than the one or two companies that own all of the cable TV programming--reducing content year after year after year, replacing with shitty advertising and cheap, unscripted, vapid reality-like programming.

fucking horrible.
