found this looking on the logitech website....

notice that the rears are WIRELESS... and they have a HUGELY improved remote and control pod.... LOOKS really nice....

anyone seen any reviews yer or heard anything about this???

I must also note that these speakers are now DIRECT competitors (as far as price) with klispch, so LOGITECH better hope they improved the quality.... it looks obvious they improved the FEATURES...but im not sure someone will pay for features over quality in speakers...

No, they are not driect competitors. That's why it's called "Z-5450" as in, "50 less" than Z-5500.

It looks like it's basically a Z-5500 with less power handling, plus a pair of very weak rears.

How do you define hugely improved remote? Because its a rectangle instead of tapering at the end? Hah! As for the control pod, it looks different. It's an improvement when they improve the DACs. Here's an example: Mass market stuff tends to look good, whereas high end stuff tends to look bland. Where do you think your money is going to? If you want to pay for looks, that's your prerogative.

3" midrange drivers still. That means the only thing it competes with is the Creative Progamer. That's the only thing in Logitech's class (and happens to best it in the bass range). Klipsch Ultra and Creative Gigaworks S700, S750 is still a mile ahead of it sonically.

Creative long figured out you couldn't sell a tweeter-less system for $400 and market it as high end. If Logitech speakers didn't have such low street prices, I would've called them a MM market Bose a long time ago. For those who pay retail for this kind of stuff--I hope you are the kind who upgrades from the Z-560s to the Z-680s to the Z-5500s to the Z-5450s...

I like the looks of the rear satellites... but 500 MSRP? That's beyond Klipsch's Ultra even.

All that means is that the pod has a few extra inputs. It has an extra optical and two extra RCA inputs. That doesn't mean its in any way better. There's no way they'll compare any better in sound to Klipsch or Creative with wireless rear speakers. In fact, the speakers all around including the sub are considerably weaker in wattage than the Z-5500s. I don't see who they could be marketing these at, as they're 25% more expensive than the 5500s, and only the all but worthless wireless speakers.

Actually now that I look at it, this looks more like a somewhat modified Z-5300 set. Considering the price, this is very weak.

That's what I thought when I saw it first a month or so ago.

Except for the wireless speakers part is seems to me that you'd get similar performance coming from a z-5300s set with a creative control box for half the price.

Learning remote >>>>>>>>>>>> Universal remote

OMG.

I AM AN IDIOT.

YOU HAVE SEVEN!!!! SOURCES NOW INSTEAD OF FIVE!!!

LETS ALL BUY THIS WITH CHOY WHO WE KNOW WILL BUY IT FOR SURE!!!

THIS IS TEH BEST PRODUCT EVAR!

Lol..

Perhaps you don't knw the definition of a Universal Remote? It means you can CONTROL multiple sources, not SWITCH to multiple audio sources. Don't get a little too excited reading "into" a manufacturer product page, all you have to do is look at the PHOTO of the remote to see its not universal.

Logitech does sell universal remotes. They are about 3 times bigger than the one you see there, and cost a hefty sum too. Do your research, nooblar.

sorry astralite... i bow down to your superbly competent a-hole skills.. i consider myself owned..congrats on overcoming such a woefully noobish foe............ As a reward, now you can add +2 to your RPG characteristics to whatever category you desire!!!!

(edit...id recommend adding it to "personality")

Why can't manufacturers make front speakers wireless too?

Does everyone realize that you still have to plug each wireless speaker into an outlet to power its own amp?

Well, I could see someone wanting it for certain rooms where running wire along the edge of the wall was impossible and if the speakers somehow were powered wirelessly, but for something like this where you'll have to have big power cords coming from the rear speakers and running to a wall outlet for each one, I don't see the big gain over running a regular speaker wire to them.

These are worse speakers than the Z5500, and they can't do 96Hz.
Also the power cords for the rear do so much for this so call "wireless"

What does that mean?
I'm still trying to figure out what his complaint is with the "wired" rear speakers.
Doesnt he understand wireless is for the audio signal? Speakers still need power buddy! Or was he hoping for double-A's or something? Maybe a 9-volt?
Perhaps a supermagnetic field generator from the amp?
That would be a great idea. I'm sure it wouldnt interfere with anything else in the house.

Anywho, getting back to the OP. I dont think this is all that great. You could get more power for less money and spend the rest on a nice universal remote. Logitech didnt come up with that idea on their own. Its been around for a while now.

So you honestly think creative/klipsch beats the Z-5500's?

I don't know about Creative, but the my last set of speakers set from Creative is terrible but that's in 1998.
IMO, Klipsch Promedias beat the Logitech Z680.. by far.. very far.

It's also got plenty of inputs, and dolby/dts.

Actually, I am strictly talking about the sound output and sound quality. According to the reviews I have read, the Z-5500 sounds almost the same as the Z-680, some editors even found that the Z-680 sounded a little better on the mid-range.

I'd really like to find out which is better, because I'm going to be getting either the GigaWorks ProGamer, or the Z-5500. I probably DO NOT need a 7.1 system currently, Lol.
I do require quite a few connections though (DVD player, PC, Gamecube, Xbox, PS2), thats why I'm leaning towards the Z-5500. Wireless controler is also nice.
