Today I purchased a Dell Venue 8 Pro from Walmart via online order for instore pickup, The outer box of the unit I received was beat up and dirty, but I figured "whatever". Once I opened the box, I knew by looking at the plastic film around the tablet that it had been on their shelves for a while. I checked out the Dell service tag and the shipping date was approximately 7 months ago (10/19/13). The DV8P works great, no problems with the screen whatsoever, but I don't want the battery to crap out prematurely. Should I be concerned about the battery's lifespan? Should I exchange for a newer unit?

Thanks!

I'd update the firmware on that tab as well. We've a few Dell W8 Atom based tablets with older firmware that had the batteries die due to faulty firmware. Newer updates fixed the issues.

Please forgive ignorance on this topic!

When I opened the tablet it had about a 77% charge. First thing I did was install an application called Battery Care, which stated the battery's designed capacity and total capacity was 18675 mWH, which matched up with what others were getting with their DV8P's OOTB. I installed updates and tried charging the battery to full capacity, but it wouldn't charge past 87% ("plugged in, but not charging"). I restarted the tablet again, battery was at 100%, but the stats from Battery Care are kinda concerning. Capacity is now 16189/18675 mWh and wear level of 13.31%. It's like 87% is the new 100%.

Hope it's OK if I post a link to this image:

In comparision, my laptop is 4 years old, but still on it's original battery with a wear level of 14.03%.
