New linux distros and video cards.

My computer is getting a little old, but I don't have to worry about drivers with linux since all of it is supported by current distros. I am however thinking about buying a newer video card, so I was wondering what cards are supported by most current linux distros using X.org. I would like to stay with ATI, but I hear if you have to install their linux drivers it can be a mess.

Also what newer tv tuner cards are currently supported in Linux? I want to seperate the video and tv tuner parts so I am going to get both. Right now I have aiw7500 and Gatos hasn't been updated in over a year.

P.S. The main distro that I use is pclinuxos if that makes any difference. It is based off of mandrake.

Thanks

ding ding! Its amazing how playing games on Linux at times yields me more frames on a ti4200 than on a high end ATI card.

Basically..Nvidia has REAL linux drivers, ATI has poser ones

I suppose that more people could post in this thread, but it wouldn't be worth their time. nVidia's cards are the only good video cards for linux.

sadly ATI seems to have gotten the shank on the driver end...nvidia's are easy to install and run while ati's involve long and complicated processes with many possible problems

my next card i buy in the next couple months will be a nvidia card so kudos to that heh
