It says it can extedn teh ragne of your wireless network by 3X and increase data trasnefer speed sup to 8X

This sounds too good to be true, but the price tag of the new stuff says otherwise.

Does it really work?

Since the dawn of time the budget wireless network vendors have given what amount to outrageous claims in relation to the range of their products specifically. Throughput is generally not such a big deal because they don't really give throughput numbers, they give signalling rate. The claim about 3x the data rate is too ambiguous to call them liars but suffice it to say, you can not take anything they say too terribly seriously. You'll get better range and better throughput, both in the near cells and especially in the outer coverage areas of what were normally standard 802.11g weak cells. Not 8X but better. Your mileage may vary, just like everyone elses. If this is a deal breaker for you because of the price then your doing the right thing in asking but you'll just have to wait a bit and see what the real world reviews are by average joe consumers. You can basically disregard the website claims, even if this time (bahahaha) they are telling the (lol) truth.

In the last few months Belkin is selling a similar product.

Their marketing uses the same ?Magic? number x8.

A PC-MAG review yield.
Typical 802.11g at 1? = 22Mb/sec. Pre-N 16.9 Mb/sec.
Typical 802.11g at 60? = 15Mb/sec. Pre-N 40.7 Mb/sec.
Typical 802.11g at 120? = 5Mb/sec. Pre-N 19.8 Mb/sec.
Typical 802.11g at 160? = 1Mb/sec. Pre-N 8.9 Mb/sec.

Beside the 160? range it is no way closer to x 8, more like x2 to x4.

Never the less it impressive.

Whether the premium price it worth while is a personal decision.

I did not see yet a Review of the Linksys. However, given the way things works in the Wireless EntryLlevel Arena it probably would yield similar results.

I would wait until the rest of the ?crowd? (D-Link, Netgear, SMC, etc.) is joining the market since the result would probably be a 40% or more reduction in price.

:sun:

yeah i already have a lunksys wireless networ k(router and a few pci nics and a couple pc card nics)

So it would be an upgrade for my laptop basically.
