new LCD, suggestions for tests to run through it?

Just picked up a 19" LCD from the hot deals forum ... any suggestions on what programs I should run on it? There's only 14day return policy, so I'm hoping to catch all the problems before the deadline is up.

TIA! 🙂

I wouldn't test it at all. If you don't see it, it won't bother you.

If its big enough that you've noticed already, then yes, rub it, flash different colors to try to fix it, but don't try to find something that will bother you.

Games (CS:S/HL2/FEAR/etc), play some DVD's, check for ghosting/color problems.

That would require LordSnailz take into account the his/her video card performance, RAM, CPU etc.

kelvrick: good point, but I wanted to run something to check that there's nothing wrong versus say finding something later down the road, like the 15th day.

I'm not really a gamer, so no access to cs:s/hl2/fear ... there's no program that chks for dead pixels or ghosting effects?

Now don't confuse a dead pixel with a fleck of dirt on the screen or a piece of dried snot. Wipe gently your screen with a dry clean rag before using the test procedure. How can you tell the difference ? Easy: move your head to the side of the screen: if the error moves to the next pixel, it's dried snot ! If you notice dead pixels, sometimes you can massage them back to life: just rub the screen by pressing a finger gently through a rag around the pixel. No guaranty but sometimes it works; LCD monitors are fairly fragile, so take it easy.

Crude, but it works

As for ghosting, that is a limitation of the response time in m/s of the LCD, the lower the number the better 🙂

You are using DVI right?

Which model/price?

For some reason, I think he's running the hyndai or viewsonic.

If you're not running DVI, then Monoprice has some very nice dvi cables for pretty cheap. I use them over one that came with my Dell.

Oh, and there are plenty of dead pixel testers. Just search google for dead pixel tester. Then there are the ones that flash up on your screen real fast to try to fix the stuck ones too.
