These are the two I'm really looking at:

#1 Viewsonic Q9b-2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116011

19" Standard
8ms
1280x1024
16.7 Million Colors

#2 Hanns·G HW-191DPB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...=EMC-neemail080406&ATT=N82E16824254005

19" Widescreen
5ms
1440x900
16.2 Million Colors

I'm not really sure if I want a widescreen though. I have also heard that 16.2 million color screens don't display darker games as well, like Doom 3 (Doom 3 is one of my favorite games, it's not that dark on my CRT).

I usually run CS Source at 1600x1200, if I got the Viewsonic I would only be able to go to 1280x1024?

Is there a noticeable difference between 5ms and 8ms?

Is widescreen the way to go? I don't like black bars for things that don't support widescreen.

Is there anything else I should know about when shopping for an LCD Monitor?

Any Advice is appreciated.

LCD's are meant to be run at their native resolution only. They cannot be run bigger than their native resolution, and tend to look bad running lower than their native resolution. If you want 1600x1200 you have to go with a 20.1 inch LCD. Its not like a CRT where the resolution can be adjusted by the number of lines the Eletron Gun outputs. An LCD has discrete pixels, with a fixed size.

It's the contrast ratio that determines the blackness of the blacks, not so much the number of colors. The higher the contrast ratio, the blacker the blacks. This is really the main problems with LCD's besides speed. Ever try to play (any) splinter cell on an LCD?
And the previous post is spot on, running an LCD other than the native resolution will make the picture looked jacked, is not a good visual experience.
