new LCD monitor giving me a headache?

At first I thought it was the lack of sleep I've been getting but this past couple days I've been a lazy ass and slept more than 8hrs before heading to work, yet I still get a terrible headache by the afternoon.

This seems to have started when I got my 20" samsung lcd ... I work fine with the LCD on my T41, can it be the LCD monitor or something else? I've tried turning the brightness, it's down to 40's ... my Hyundai at home doesn't seem to give me any problems, although I do stare at my work monitor way longer that at home.

If it's the LCD, any tweaks I can do to it or should I exchange for a bulky CRT?

could be bad ambient lighting. Fluorescent lights give me headaches because they flicker for example.

yeah, I guess I should swap it out to see if it's my particular LCD that's giving me a headache.

Not sure if it's the ambient lighting, it's at the office, we have the same lighting for all the other 100 cubicles (yes it looks exactly like how it is in dilbert :) )

Might just be coincidental timing. My allergies have been driving me insane lately, including thumping headaches, thanks to my sinuses.

your eyes are not use to seeing where things are on the screen yet so they are moving around more and constantly trying to focus/spot things. once you're used to it (a week or so), you should be set; might even look small (since in the back of your mind you know there's nice 30"s out there :))

Well I don't fully understand how refresh rates work with LCD's, but with a CRT, I have to have atleast a 70 or I get a huge headache. On my LCD, it's set for 60 and I see absolutely no flicker and I don't get headaches. Shrug. Maybe you're more sensative than I am and a lower refresh rate is driving you nuts?

Check the contrast/brightness settings, when I had mine cranked to high/low it gave me a headache or made my eyes water.

Set your refresh rate to 60hz, not 75 or anything else other than 60. LCDs are designed to work at 60hz, they do wierd things (like jitter) at other refresh rates. LCDs don't actually flicker, even at low refresh rates. The screen is updated differently than CRTs.
