New Large Moniter

I'm looking to get a new large moniter (I'm thinking 21"), mainly for gaming. I'm not restricted by space, so I don't really want a LCD. I was looking at some Viewsonic moniters at NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116179, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116228), but I don't really know a whole lot about moniters. One thing I noticed is that none of them had DVI output, which I had thought was better than Analog. I was wondering if anybody has any ideas? Thanks.

DVI is better. DVI is a digital interface designed for LCD's which are digital. CRT's are analog, so you won't find any CRT's that have DVI ports.

Edit: Everywhere I look, it's LCDs. Are they really good for gaming? I thought CRTs were still better, but I can barely find any CRTs anymore. I haven't seen any LCDs that are over 19" that aren't outrageously expensive, and I'd really like a bit more screen size.

The 2005fpw - Is it really good for gaming? and is the widescreen ratio good for gaming too? I haven't noticed many PC games that support that ratio. Also, I don't see it for any cheaper than 480 or so.

AndrewZorn - thanks for the confirmation. Are there any other good 21" CRT moniters besides the ones I mentioned? or are those two pretty good? or do you have any idea?

My IBM P260 CRT has a DVI port.

By the way, I recommend getting an IBM P260. They can be had used for $200 online and they are worth three times that.

I was going to say that. Surplus Computers has them on sale for $99.

Anyhow, I take it the P260 moniter would work well for gaming purposes?

12 ms response time is pretty good. there are plenty of games that support widescreen and more will adopt as widescreen gets more popular. check hot deals, 2005fpw is at the moment $389 before tax.

That's where I got mine.

I use it for gaming and I love it. Just know that it's pretty big and very heavy.

I would get a Grade A monitor if you can. I would feel safer. Mine's an A and I have no complaints.

There is a lot less eye train with LCD's because there is no flicker as there is with a CRT. They also use less power. This may not make a huge difference with just one LCD, but it still uses less power. Also less distortion, less heat and radiation.

I wouldn't take a Grade B refurbed monitor. Even my Grade A came with some knicks and scratches, and I had to return one before I got one that wasn't cracked. With refurbed it's the pick of the draw, so don't take any chances.

With a price that low I doubt it's a Grade A. I paid a lot more than that for my Grade A Dell P1130 a year ago.

i got a 2005fpw and mostly game with it. works totally fine. i used to have a viewsonic 19 crt and the lcd kicks its ass

I know the site was linked to above, but azatek has grade A ones for $199 shipped if you didn't see that already.

If I was getting a new monitor I'd probably go with an NEC 1250+ since I really like my 950+.

So you learn something new everyday. I'm surprised CRT's have DVI, I'm behind the times! Just out of curiousity does the moniter have to convert the signal to analog as well? I know with previous LCD's that had VGA the LCD had an internal converter, but then again I might be wrong on that as well?
