I personally would go with a Fujitsu. Go to their website and they have a lot of innovative/nice stuff. They even have touch screen laptops. Most of theirs are really portable and a good price.

btw, are you interested in a subnotebook/ultraportable? those are usually the lightest. however, the screen size is normally about 12.1" on ultraportables.

my ultraportable pick: Toshiba Portege 2000

2.6 lbs :Q
0.73" thick :Q
comes w/ an extended battery that gives it nearly 6 hours of life!

definitely will give you that wow factor, from everyone who sees it :)

Dell Inspiron 8200 top of the line loaded and has the best battery life of any. XLNT powerpoint machine. I use it for the same thing. It is a fully functional desktop replacement and doubles as that when I'm not mobile.

All the others are cutsy knockoffs and you trade features from the Dell Inspiron to achieve an ego boost.

Stay with dell for quality, dependability, and support. I can't emphasise that enough. In my office we have sonys, thinkpads, and compaq's. The only flawless laptops are dells. There are issues with all the others, from screen problems to peripheral add ons.

In the Inspiron, everything is on board standard, from USB and firewire, to CD-RW/DVD. You can add zips or floppy drives as options. On mine,I never speced WiFi, so I am in the market for a dependable pcmcia WiFi solution. But that is not the fault of Dell not being there. A year ago, WiFi was still in it's infancy. I am OK waiting for the bugs to be worked out.

Check out the Dell Inspiron 4150. It's thinner and lighter. It still probably weighs about 6 pounds, but its really not that bad. My sister has a 4100 and i think i'll buy one as soon as i get some money.

Yes the T series has a Titanium composite cover.

ThinkPad T Series notebooks are equipped with the Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor?M (select models), Double Data Rate memory (select models), integrated Wi-Fi wireless technology27 and a Titanium Composite cover to help protect against knocks and bumps.

I'd say the Apple Powerbook does everything you spec better than a PC lappy can do. Very light and has really good battery life that only the banias maybe able to beat.

www.fujitsu.com

I have only heard good stuff about them. They are a company that is striving to make new technologies more present in everyday items. Like they have a touch screen laptop for sale on their site. They also have laptops the size of a hard back book but with battery ways only like 4 lbs.
