Wow! i went with my dad to best buy tonight. He needed a new oven. While he was doing that, i took a look around. I found an Asus G50v-x5 laptop for $899.99. It has 4GB of ram, a intel core2duo 2.13 ghz cpu, 320 gb HD, an nvidia 512 mb 9800m gs video card, vista home premium64 bit, plus a few other odds and ends.

I couldn't believe the price considering gaming laptops cost a lot more than that (and this was Best Buy), so I snatched one of these up!

I actually found my laptop at Best Buy as well last week. Its a Dell Inspiron 1545 has the 2.16ghz DualCore Pentium (its actually a Core2) 3Gb of DDR2800 memory, 160 gb HD, DVD burner, has the Intel HD4500GM graphics chip (not great I know - good thing its not a gaming machine, etc), built in Wi-Fi, Windows Vista Home Premium - picked it up for $499. Not too bad. I love the machine.

yes, it has one but its very limited in what it displays. it is in the same row as the hd indicator, numlock, capslock leds, to the right (below the Altec Lansing text).

I'm still installing software and games but so far it seems to be a pretty damn sleek laptop.

it is a bit flashy as it has 3 led light strips and a led light up Republic of Gamers logo on the outside and it also has some sort of orangish/yellowish splash/lightning/fire design on the top of the lid too.

i got a laptop at BBuy too. an Asus "A6V-X2".

4 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, not much in the way of graphics, Core 2 Duo
@ 2 GHz, Vista 64. $619

it was $699 for a few months, they lowered their prices on some items
when Circuit City was having their BK sale.

Depends... AFAIK regular pricing or regular sales can be had online. Outlet items are only online. Clearance items are in-store.

My notebook is also from Best Buy as a clearance item. I think I ended up paying $470 out the door for my Gateway with a Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Vista Home Premium 64, 250GB HDD, 15.4" widescreen, Radeon Mobility HD 2600 XT with 512MB GDDR3.

I bought a decent Compaq a few years ago from BestBuy and it was a damn good price, something like $150 off the normal price at the time.

I've recently been comparing prices all arond the web and to be honest, Newegg offers some great deals too. I scored a Thinkpad SL300 for $749. 2GB ram, Intel P8400 (2.3ghz, the newer 45nm lower power versions) 160GB HD and a nice 13.3" screen. It was originally listed for $929 but the price dropped.

Best Buy tends to have pretty good (if not great) prices on laptops, especially the gaming ones from Gateway and Asus.

the basic strategy is (for instore shopping), find the ones
you like, the premium laptop for $500 type deals, then
find a salesperson and have them look it up to see if they
have it in stock.

a lot of the premium laptop deals are not in stock, so they
say they can't sell them.
