hi guys can you ppl help me decide which laptop to buy?

im not able to decide on Pentium M or Mobile Pentium 4 .

i would like to know their differences, pros and cons.

i would be mostly using the laptop for coding mostly using visual studio.

Thanks in advance

How about cool and quiet and 35W mobile A64's ... I have my doubts Jeff... I can't find it now but I read a guy saying he had anywhere between 4-8 hours depending on use on his compaq A64 laptop... More data needed.

An Athlon-64 wasn't one of the two options he gave. Pentium M's also have up to 8 hours of battery life depending on the battery and the usage.

Same as Zebo, look at the Athlon64 laptops. You can get a Hp or compaq in the $800 range or a top of the line eMachine for less then $1400.

The A64 is faster then a P-M and P-4 but gets better battery life then a P4. So its the best of both worlds and if you plan on keeping it then when the Win-64bit OS comes out you will be ready.

well 1.8ghz or Pentium M is equivalent to wat ghz of Mobile Pentium 4 and also to that of an A64

Well it depends on what type of performance you're talking about. Pentium 4's are pretty damn good at media work... Athlon-64's are pretty damn good at gaming and compiling... Pentium M's are probably a split between the two, and have slightly better battery life than a mobile Athlon-64. Pentium M's will have a disadvantage in things that require lots of memory bandwidth since they only use PC2100 RAM.

Is the Athlon 64-bit processor the only one on the market right now that can support the new Windows OS that will be coming out soon?

For the most part yes. The NEWWEST Xeon cpu has 64bit support. But it will not be in a laptop and cost quite a bite.
