New laptop wont boot to DOS via USB flash drive?

JEDI

Lifer
got a new 15.6" Toshiba laptop (Intel i3).
it came w/Win8 (yuck). want to wipe it and install Win7.

first thing I did was put in my trusty DOS usb flash drive which has worked for all my desktops/laptops so far.
this laptop ignores it and goes into Win8 setup.

went into bios and set first bootup to usb instead of hard drive.

again the Toshiba ignores my dos usb drive and goes into Win8 setup.

used my Clonezilla usb flash drive. boots fine off that.
Loading my Win7 image now.

Why wont it boot to DOS?

Could be that the version of DOS is not compatible. Clonezilla and other similar products boot to a Linux variant.

Could be the SecureBoot option in the BIOS especially since it came with Win8. Secureboot doesn't allow any nonUEFI compatible OS boot on the computer. You could shut off SecureBoot, but I don't know what effect that would have on Win8.
