New laptop - want to reinstall XP

Hello,

I bought a Toshiba M35X-S111 laptop. It came with a disk titled "Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD - Satellite M30X/M35X series". There's a lot of extra software installed on the machine and I would like to reformat the HD and reinstall XP. The Disk wont let me do that - my 2 choices are: "Restore factory config" or "install new drivers" (I forget the exact wording). Any ideas how I could rebuild this machine from the included disk? Do I have to buy XP from Microsoft?

Thanks for your help.

Depending on how Toshiba sets up their machines, you may not want to (or be able to) set the machine up properly without their installation disk. You may lose some proprietary resources that are unique to their systemsuch as power monitoring.

Before you wipe the machine, check "Add/Remove Programs" to see if the individual programs you want to remove can be uninstalled independently. That may be a better way to get the cleaner machine you want.
