Alright, so I have it configured this way....

Intel C2D T700 2GHz

Windows XP Home Edition

14.1 SXGA+ TFT

ATI Mob. Radeon X1400 128mb of ram

1gb of pc2-5300 ddr2 2x512

60gb hdd 5400rpm

Thinkpad wireless LAN mini pci and a 6 cell batery

for 1129 before tax....what do you guys think...i'm thinking about going to the x1300 so that i can get the 9 cell battery but...seems like it would be easier to upgrade the battery later on then the video card.

it looks good. if you want the 9-cell, fine, but i wouldn't go with the x1300 myself. it doesn't have enough power to do much more than the intel GMA950 can and it doesn't have the battery power of the GMA950 either. i would either go GMA950 or X1400, but not in between. at least that's my opinion.

the t60 has good battery life as it is. my dad has the 6-cell and it goes a good 3.5 hours (at least) on a good charge. the 9-cell would give u more. he has the integrated graphics, though, so the x1400 config would go less than that

I wouldn't be doing much gaming. But it would be nice to be able to bring my lappy to my buddies to play some wc3 or CS. Sims2 would be nice too. I think i'll stick with the x1400.

there are other brands but this seems pretty solid. at that CPU, HP'll most likely cost you more. apple will cost at least 1.5 times as much. you could consider the dell d620. you seem pretty stuck on the sub-$1150 price so the d620 most likely wouldn't be ideal. they do have a $400 off $1699 purchase, but that'll only drop you down the $1299, before tax. it does come with a graphics upgrade option, but i'm not sure how the NVIDIA Quadro performs in games.

you're basically getting the best you can with the T60.

that sucks. i would wait til next week though; lenovo offers a lot of deals. about the macbook, it'll be way to expensive for you. if you're going to do some light game, macbooks only come with integrated and the macbook pro starts at $2000, iirc. check into HP's DV6000 line (comes with a go7400) or the dell latitude d620. the latitude line is MUCH better than the inspirons. i would rank them right under ibm/lenovo
