New laptop squeaking?

I just got a M1210 from dell, About a month ago. its a great machine, its very small, very fast. All around it seems like a great laptop. I got the extended warranty also, and unfortunately I'm going to need it I suspect.

I believe there are only two moving parts in the machine, the cpu fan (which I cant hear... ever) and the hard drive, which I also, essentially cant hear.. . But starting yesterday from what I believe to be the front left near the 'ctrl' button this little intermittent squeak? Remember the sound of a 3.5" floppy, when you would first put it in and you could hear it wind with a quick "slap" a second after you inserted it? it sounds alot like that, just faster and higher pitched.

It also sounds alot like the geckos that are always in the office here! I really dont think one would fit into it, I suspect its the hard drive going. But the sound only happens ever 20 minutes or so. Its not the cdrom thats on the other side.

What do I tell dell? "my laptop sounds like a gecko?" or just wait till something fails? have any of you seen this before?

Thanks in advance!

Tell them about the noise, maybe they have had a lot of issues like that with that type of laptop and maybe they have a fix for it. Definetly sounds like a phyical issue like you said, call them and tell them about the new noise.

Backup your critical data files before things go south. If you have a Toshiba drive, the noise is most likely from it. Either way, I would sent it back to have it repaired if I were you. Just tell Dell the hard drive is making strange squaking noise.
