New Laptop Recomendation

I currently own a Sony Vaio K 15 Laptop, upgraded the drive to 80 Gb annd the Ram to 1 Gb, It runs a Pentium 4 2.8 Desktop processor (x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~2791 Mhz)

I am looking to upgrade to a new Laptop, I don't mind Heavy Laptops, as I need Desktop Processing speed / power.

Here is my problem. I bought the Sony with the Pentium 4 Desktop because I wanted the fastes most Powerful Laptop for the Money.

But for my next purchase, Sony isn't making any Desktop processor Laptops

I don't know anything about the current choices of duo core processors, L2 caches, AMD, etc.

Are the duo cores as fast as the older P4 desktop Laptops?

The Laptop will be used to creat websites, show allot of full screen photos and DVDs to Clients (and websites) I use PhotoShop for Graphics as well as doing some Video production.

Looking for 17 in screen, at least 1 Gb Memory (2 GB better) a
t least 80-100 Gb Hard drive, WiFi, and a DVD Burner, and as much batterly life as possible, though that is not a major concern.

Bottom line, for around $2500, who makes the best/most powerful laptop that fits this recipe?

Thanks to all . .

You might look into a Dell e1705..you can get all of your specs for your target price of $2500 with no problem. Most testing shows the duo core intel to be very competitive with the higher speed desktop offerings. I cant see a e1705 matched the the highest speed duo core not being able to meet your needs.

Wait a month or two. AMD is comming out with Dual Core Turion in May and that will force Intel to cut their prices in order to remain competative, and AMD will have to follow. In short, cheaper laptops in a few months.

Ya but, im already waiting for directx 10 games and vidoe card, vista, etc. so im also looking for laptop RIGHT NOW. around $1200 CAN. and i'll spend rest of my money next summer for gaming desktop. I just bought a Toshiba Satellite, but 2 hr battery is garbage..... is there any Canadian computer websites where i can get a descent laptop??? with like 5 hr battery? Too bad newegg doesnt ship to canada.... It used to b nice when i used newegg

I agree with deathwalker on the Dell E1705. For a little over $2000 you can almost max it out and then with their $750 off $1999 coupons that are always around, it brings the price down to a point that no other brand can match.

If you don't mind heavy, check out Sager. Best price to performance ratio. One of the best quality notebooks on the market. A little heavy and a little ugly, but an awesome performer for a great price.
