new laptop for gaming!

hi i currently have a dell xps m1730 with the following specs:
17" 1920 x 1200
intel core2duo t9300
8800m gtx sli
2x 160gb 7200rpm hdd in raid 0
4gb ddr2 ram

i have been looking at a laptop from eurocom that uses clevo chassies
the one i have been looking at is

18.4" 1920 x 1080p screen
intel i7 740qm 1.60 Ghz
4gb ddr3
250gb 7200rpm hdd
460m gtx or 5870m corssfire or 6970m 1gb (advice needed please!)

the main games i play at the moment are bf2, bfbc2, moh and bf3 when its out

is it worth the upgrade?
i would sell my current laptop on ebay and get around £500 and eurocom give a 20% discount when you trade in a old laptop which is what i will do aswell!
this is going to cost around £1800,
so what i am asking is is the upgrade worth it?
and how much of a performance increase should i see?

I'd keep the laptop you have and buy a good ssd for it.

realy? that will only affect boot times though wont it? i just dont feel like the 8800m gtx sli are keeping up much anymore i have to lower the settings on bfbc2 to low/medium which just makes the game look ugly compared to my desktop

Yeah either the 460 or 5870 mobile crossfires would be huge upgrades and worth it if you have the money.

Looks like the 6970 is a great option. I suspect the dual core is holding you back so quad core + 6970 would be best option in my opinion. But sli/crossfire 460/5870 is a fine option as well if you don't mind the extra power/heat.

MSI GT680 or Clevo P150HM might be good Sandy Bridge alternatives. P150HM can be ordered with GTX485 which is pretty crazy in a 15inch. They also have 17" version, P170HM.

allows you to practically play any game you want with fluid frames.

in my eyes the gaming hardware market will always see new laptops with new graphics. so instead of waiting for something better, get what you want now if you have the cash.

used gaming laptops do not hold value like they used to five years ago. so don't act like you're going to live forever and try wait it out for something extremely good, 'cuz they're right in front of you, the now.

well another reason for upgrading is that my laptop is out of warrenty and the graphics just went but i managed to get the people i rought it from to repair it for free. but now im kinda skeptical about the laptop because im always going to be parinoid because its a very commen problem for the m1730 graphics to break!
