i'll be starting college this fall and i'm looking into getting a laptop. i'm leaning on getting a Core 2 Duo processor (that's why i waited so long) but i can only find dell that has it on their site. i want to spend $800 or less, but i do have somewhat a flexible budget (up to $1200). here's what i want out of the laptop:

* 14" preferable, 15.4" max screen size
* Core Duo/Core 2 Duo (preferable 2 Duo)
* 80GB IDE or 60GB+ SATA
* DVD/CD-RW (DVD burner is a plus)
* integrated graphics (because of heat/weight)
* 2 years warranty (more is better)
* ram doesn't matter..i have 1gb of my own

anyone have any recommendations? or at least recommendations to sites to look at. i'll be checking out B&M spots on monday but i'm not sure the deals will be too good

thanks for any and all help

Latitude 520 or 620 if you can fit it in your budget. I got my D620 about a week ago and absolutely *love* it, it was a great choice IMO. It's light, has a great screen, excellent build quality, etc.

Two of the small things for me is that it has a pointer mouse or whatever it's called in the center of the keyboard. I hate the little trackpoint and using that, which is why the pointer is better, assuming I don't have a seperate mouse, which I almost always do. Another small thing is that it has a builtin microphone. A builtin mic isn't a big deal, but it's one less thing to carry.

Lenovo T60. If you want a similar series, consider Dell's 620m (Latitude) or the HP NC-6000 series (Whatever new one replaced the NC6000)

I'll just list the non-default stuff:
1GB RAM
80GB 7200RPM
256mb nvidia card
Intel wireless
bluetooth module
6 cell battery (no charge)
WXGA+ screen

I basically got it for the standard price online after discounts minus another 15% or so because of my business discounts.

1 Year.

I'm not a warranty fan. If I were to add up all the money I saved by not buying warrantys and protection plans, it would be much larger than the amount of money I have to spend replacing stuff that has broken.
