New Laptop DisplayPort to HDMI?

I got a new work laptop a Dell E6400, and I cannot seem to get the DisplayPort out to convert to my older style HDMI monitor. I have purchased two seperate converters, to go from display port to the older hdmi style, and neither works. The laptop refuses to recognize the monitor when plugged in.

The Monitor used to work with no issue on my older laptop that had a regular HDMI out. Any suggestions? I would hate to buy a new monitor.

Also may wana check see if maybe your not just overlooking a Function hotkey on the laptop keyboard that may enable/disable or allow you to switch between the displayport.

windows or linux?

In either case.. there is probably a BIOS setting for the display port to relates to how the graphics and display port gets used.
