Just bought a Win7 laptop. Is it possible to migrate my existing programs, without the install discs, to the new laptop? My old laptop is XP.

I'm thinking the only way would be to clone my existing HDD onto the new machine, then upgrade it to Ultimate.

what do you think?

Yeah no way to move an installed program I also would not recommend going the upgrade path you mention in place upgrades are just asking for problems it's always better to do a full format and fresh install.

I think you can copy the program files and then copy their registry info, that should work. It will require you burning the data to a DVD or doing similar, though.

I'm not sure.

Bite the bullet - clean install of everything. Your data files can be transferred easily - but registrations for apps are critical.
