This is what I hate about everything being consolized now, we have to pay for things we used to get for free on PC. Oh well the SDK will take care of the freeness of everything.

That article is already saying "how much it will cost...". People on the Steam forums are all mad about how we are getting charged, but I'm not sure we can say that. OTOH, it states the SDK is free but no mention of the DLC so it would not surprise me if it costs.

I am not one to whine about how long things take or what it costs, etc, but I am getting disappointed in L4D. No question about it, those two versus campaigns should have been in from the start. If they did have to release and add them in later, they should be in there fairly quickly and free. I don't think I'm asking too much. L4D is awesome but for $50 it is definitely lacking in content IMO.

And to be more critical, that DLC does almost zero for me. There are only four co-op campaigns that aren't that long, and I'd really like to see more. I think a reasonable expectation, especially for someone like Valve, is to have the four campaigns for co-op and versus at start or soon after, with the addition of 1 or 2 more campaigns and minor upgrades in the form of a patch. Things like even more campaigns, new game modes, greatly enhanced AI director, etc, I could see fit for an expansion, and at $20-30 I would gladly buy it. But not if I don't get hardly anything for the base game.

Especially when you compare it to TF2 and how much upgrades and patches it got and looks like will continue to get. I hope I am wrong because L4D is a lot of fun.

Yea it probably will be free for PC because they are still releasing all the TF2 for free so I believe this will be free as well as valve said gamers shouldn't have to pay for added DLC

DLC should be free IMHO, we've paid for the product, if you're fixing it/ making considerable changes to it. However if they're talking expansion, it shouldnt cost much because the current stuff isn't even fully available yet. maybe 10-15 for new campaigns. but as far as current stuff goes that should all be free. what happened to the days when new maps were bi-weekly and free!?

I agree. I also am very sure it will be free just going from what Gabe said

You can already play the other campaigns in multiplayer >_>

This is just an official way to do it ;)

And if they try to pull some crap & it's not free, you can be sure i'll be playing them anyway, as i'm not buying something that shoulda come built into the game.

I call BS on paying $50 and then them charging for new shit. The game is shorter than TF2, and look at how much new, free stuff that got.

I agree $50 for 5 campaigns 10 guns, 4 zombie bosses they need more for that, still a very fun game though and with all the DLC it will definately be great as Im sure the DLC will be free for us PC gamers :)

I also agree that the initial price is already higher than its value/content, any expended content that follows should be free as much as it currently is for Team Fortress 2. In fact TF2 has received way more updates since its release to the point where you could almost say that it had an expansion pack within many different updates, and it has always been free. If the L4D's new content will cost money then I will certainly consider NOT buying it, at least not right away.

Doesn't matter if the DLC isn't free (unless it adds in a whole lot of stuff such as new weapons/abilities/new special infected, etc...which I doubt) as the free SDK should cause a deluge of community driven work to finally be realized.

Yeah, but the final boss in TF2 is too easy

This isn't about consoles, this is about dipshit gamers who are willing to pay. They will only charge if people will pay for it. I won't, personally.

first user post from that article

"There is no amount of money that Valve could charge for this that I wouldn't pay. Can I get a "FUCK YEAH"!?!?"

If they charge for this I won't buy it. $50 for what we got was kinda bs. The game just didn't hold my interest.

I'm not obsessed about whether or not they would charge pc users for the content cited, though I would not pay for such a minor pack, and I feel that the completion of the initial versus campaigns had been an implied promise.

Instead, I'm a little surprised because I was naive enough to suppose that maybe development had been hampered by the need to address serious issues with the lobby/launch/matchmaker systems.

After the BS matchmaking system, there's no way I'd pay for the DLC. If they charge for it, I'm just going to neglect class for the rest of the year and replicate everything with the SDK :)

They are probably referring to console gamers so don't get rattled up by it.

Also the 'chargeable' part of that article is just speculation from the journalist.

I thought Valve has always been openly against charging for PC DLC?

Consoles on the other hand is another matter....

And with the SDK, does it matter much?

Make another set of folders, I got that error also when I first ran the .exe.
;)

I think everyone is jumping to conclusions here about PC updates to L4D costing money, but if I had to, hell I'll pay for it and I already play Death Toll and Dead Air on Vs.

All the people whining in this thread about PC updates costing anything need to get a reality check. Development costs money, look at how many hours you've spent playing this game and tell me you haven't gotten your $50 worth.

Yes, we all know that PC modding has been free for years in addition to content updates but if you want your favorite developers to continue making games then support them.
