Although they gave the Kyro II a very high rating, I don't think that this review showed nearly the level of performance that Anandtech's review did. When they reviewed it here back in March, the Kyro II outperformed a GF2 Pro some of the time, and occasionally performed on the level of an Ultra. At Maximum3D they have it trampling over a GF2 MX card and performing a little bit better than a GF2 GTS. It would have been nice if they would have included a GF2 Pro or a GF2 Ultra for comparison as well and maybe ditched the GF3, since we all know that a Kyro II will rarely (if ever) outperform a GF3. Other than that, it was a pretty decent review IMHO.

hmm, Kyro II is in no-man's land for someone who bought into the last round of graphics cards.
I have a V5 that can do FSAA up to 800x600 fast. i can play with a Radeon LE if I want something cheap that looks good in 3DMark2001... now we have a GF3 to drool over.
it says on pricewatch it's down to $109. if that's true maybe I'll have one by fall.

the review wasn't technically good, even for the clueless <I wrote Maximum PC here before I realised my mistake>. no FSAA v. no FSAA benchmarks. no FSAA comparison with other cards, whether by pictures or numbers. no real attempt to address the issue of 16 v 32 bit color. it's nice to be efficient, but fact is you get little speed increase going down to 16 bit and that's not so good. if the 16bit image quality is so good, why did we not get a picture of it to look at? duh.
how does Kyro II in 16 bit compare with voodoo 3 in 16 bit and 24 bit post filter or whatever?

Here's another review of the Kyro II, taken from the Anandtech Web News this morning.

Game PC Review

It's less than stellar, as it chooses the GeForce2 MX400 over the Kyro II, even though the Kyro outperforms the MX400 in most of the games and can be found for about the same price.

I'm not so sure that review is entirely fair to the Kyro II. They admit it beats out the GeForce2 MX 400 but do not recommend it due to the "immaturity" of the drivers. From what I have learned after doing my own researching, the Kyro II's drivers are aggressively updated, unlike the nVidia Detonator drivers.

The Kyro II's may not "be there" yet, but if it requires just simple (and free) driver updates to smooth out the lumps, I wouldn't have a problem buying one.

I would like to try a KYROII, but with a retail Radeon DDR in my box now, and an Asus 6800 Gf1 DDR sitting in a box under my computer desk as a spare, I just don't have the need to gain a few fps here or there and yet again spend money on something i'll loose 50% of what I paid for it 6 months down the road.:(

I had a word with the reviewer at max3d and he says he will add FSAA benches from other cards to show against the Kyro II FSAA numbers.
