GMX D-5.1 System Picture

The 5.1 system looks kind of strange, the guts of the speaker are unprotected. I cant wait to see how they perform though. I dont know how you can say Klipsch's ProMedia isnt a high quality.

I can say it because I have seen the specs. GMX's are much cheeper than regular klipsch 5.1's and the power is much less too...

Move along folks...nothing to see here

Actually, fkloster, Maximum PC said that the subwoofer on the GMX's is supposed to be better than the current sub on the 5.1's. Since it's also a smaller, more efficient design, I can see how it would end up costing less than the 5.1's.

Well the price could get more people to buy them.. At WorstBuy if you notice the price on the current 5.1's never goes down :( they've been 399.99 like FOREVER
So maybe these will help us poor Hardware freaks get a taste of the FORCE

I really doubt these will have a better sub than the PM 5.1s. Could be wrong though, the PM5.1s have dual 8inch subs, while these have a single 8 inch.

You've seen the specs, but you haven't heard the system. At the MSRP it's between the 4.1's and 5.1's, I doubt they'll be of low quality, and I suggest you keep your @$$, er, mouth shut unless you've heard the system. :D just playin

I wonder if they'll actually sound good, unlike the rest of their (or logitech's) speakers.

I do not like the new look of these Klipschies. I have the Promedia 4.1s and love the classic high end theater look to them. I do not like this new cheapo Altec Lansing type styling. Klipsch is meant for high end producs that look unobtrusive and are mellow looking, not radical looking like these. I hope that the higher end Promedias will retain their classic look and not try to go to this new look. In a sense I guess you could say that I feel that this new look seems cheap looking.

They may be good for computer speakers, but they still sound ass. I find the bass that comes out of their subwoofers pretty horrific for their lack of musicality. Quality control seems just as bad with the number of failures people are reporting with both of these brands.

Decent is about as far as I'd rate either the Z's or promedias in terms of sound, and if you really think they sound "awesome", it's because you've never actually listened to real speakers before. And yes, real speakers are more expensive, but real speakers actually sound good.

sounds like someone paid a lot for their home theater system...lol dont be offened

i work at cc, i know what "real" speakers sound like i listen to them over and over again everyday, and they do sound freakin awsome. as i previously stated your not going to find a better 4.1, 5.1 system for under $500...and these cost less. these are the best computer speakers, if you want to talk home theater, thats a different thing.

you sound like someone that spent a lot of money on their home theater speakers, which sound freakin awsome im sure, then cant stand to think you could get a good quality speaker set for any less. sorry if thats not you, i have no intention of putting you into a category, just my first impression. sorry if thats not you, i just dont see your intention on crapping on these 2 companies when you are trying to compare home theater to computer.

i agree with you, if you put these speaker systems into the area of all speakers, the are a mere decent, but...i mean, we are not trying to compare logitech and pro media to bose or infinities here...but for computers you will not find a better set...unless you hook your comp up to your hometheater system blah blah...you get the point.

I would reserve judgement on these until you hear them or someone does a review of them.... I have heard more than once that the subwoofer is a much more efficient design, and produce more, tighter base than the 5.1's.... whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but price, or listed specs, may not be the best indicator of where these might fit into their product line.... And hopefully they have resolved the problems with the 5.1's that have caused so many systems to fail...

Over a year ago, I started looking for an upgrade for my altec lansing ACS48s which I thought sounded "awesome". I checked out promedia 2.1 which at the time were as good as they got, and they weren't much of an improvement. When I listened to a pair of Paradigm titans that cost $230cad ($150US), my jaw dropped. Really good audio can be a gradual process, and a good stereo setup can cost less than these mediocre 5.1 rigs. I've always chosen to go the route of less is more when it came to audio though. rather than get crappy 4.1 comp speakers, I got a good 2.1 setup. Anyone willing to drop $300-400 on speakers who cares more for quality than surround should definitely take a listen to what $200 bookshelf speakers can do. Those who want quantity over quality are welcome to look into these gaming speakers.

Life is too short for crappy audio.

and yes, my HT rig doubles as my computer speakers, so when bombers drop sh1t on me, the room shakes. Really.

Agreed. For computer speakers I don't think you can do better then Klipsch. I have the 2.1s and love them. I neither want nor need more speakers for my comp. Though with all the sound stuff I hear Doom3 will have that may change when its out. I got mine for about $160 something after rebate. Sure the Paradigms will sound better. They also need an amp. I don't think they are shielded either (I could be wrong about this though. And even if they are not PSB used to make and probably still does shielded Alpha's, which are my favorite in the sub $200 bookshelf category). For computer speakers I like the simplicity of having them self powered and having the volume and other controls built right into the speaker next to me. But unlike some people I choose to keep my HT and stereo needs and my computer needs seperate. I don't see them coming together any time soon for me either.

So yes, home stereo stuff sounds better in many cases then the Promedia's or any other comp speaker. Is that surprising? I don't think so. I probably have over 15k in my HT setup. And it sounds MUCH better then my ProMedias. But I don't compare the two at all. They are designed for different things.

My Monsoon MH505s sound better than the Z560s.

And, you can't forget about Cambridge Megaworks 510Ds. IMO these sound better than the 680s.
