I wanted a new firewall that controls the programs' access and so I ran a search on Anandtech. I found Kerio is a fine firewall so I gave it a whirl. I downloaded the latest Kerio Personal Firewall and it was 10 times better than Zonealarm crap.
Anyways I installed it yesterday and it worked perfectly.
But today it crapped out. Several times when I double clicked on the icon to "open" it, it would take a long time. Just a little while ago I had to end the program due to it freezing up.
I noticed that when it hangs it uses quite a bit of CPU resources.
This was one of the problems I was trying to avoid as Zonealarm would use nearly 100% of my CPU for a short amount of time. Not quite as bad as Zonealarm as Kerio doesn't seem to use that much CPU unless it freezes while opening.
Are you guys getting the same issues as I am?

Also another question. What happens when the trial of the latest version runs out? Will I still beable to control program access in and out of the internet?
Kind of want to avoid buying it or having to use 2.15.

I've never had this kind of problem with Kerio after 2+ years of use. When I open the configuration box, CPU usage never goes beyond 20%, for probably a few milliseconds at that.

If you've had similar issues with ZA, I'd say there's something else wrong with another process which may be interfering. Try streamlining which services get booted to the bare minimum using msconfig. Other than that, maybe ZA and Kerio are calling some external file which may be corrupted.

Had the same problem with the newest Kerio on two different computers over the last year or so. But I've never invested much time to find out what was happening. There are just far too many free alternatives. I generally just fell back to my good ole' standby: Sygate Personal Firewall. Don't know if you can download that anymore though.

...just a note: I had not had the problem w/the old free Kerio, just the 4.x version(s).
