One of my jobs I had a few years back was doing criminal background checks for clients of lawfirms. When they hired new lawyers they wanted a thorough check.

From what I can remember. We only checked the local cities(county courts) listed on the application and then we did a federal check to see if there is anything nationwide in the federal courts. We also then had to summarize any dockets that were found during the search.

Congrats on your marriage, I am pulling the trigger May 22nd. Would warrants show up in this search?

Hey all,

Iam trying to get a new job and i have successfully gone through 3 interviews. Seems I have it as long as I pass the drug test and the background test. Now I dont have any felonies or anything too bad, I do have a Larceny in the 6th degree from a few years ago. (Got caught stealing from Sears while I was in college, but thats another post) Will this prevent me in any way in getting this job. There is also a warrant for me in the great city of Benbrook, right outside Ft Worth, TX. How thorough is a background check and what determines HR to say, I dont want this person aboard. Am i in danger of not getting this job because of a warrant and a stupid Larceny in the 6th degree 3 years ago?

you should have just checked "no" on the application form where it asks you about criminal history.

*if* they run a background check (lots of places say they do but actually dont) and find out, then they have to decide whether what u did was really that bad compared to the trouble of going thru the candidate cycle again

YEa right, check no, then they do a bg check and i get fired for lying on my app. Dont think so

again, it's for them to decide is it worth the trouble to fire u vs hiring someone new. if u proved your worth, u stay. it's all about getting your foot in the door.

skoorb- IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO LIE ON A NON-FEDERAL JOB APPLICATION!

I live in Dallas and I don't have a warrant. Never have had one.
I think there is a decent chance these will showup.
