New job and ethics question.

Cliffs:
1.) Applied for 2 jobs, interviewed and did well.
2.) Was offered job 1, and with a tight deadline and no indication of whether or not I would be offered job 2, I accepted.
3.) Would it make me completely evil to quit after a couple days If I?m offered job 2?

Ok, so I interviewed for 2 jobs, both said they would be making a decision at the end of this week. Both interviews went really well, though I thought the interview for job 1 went a little better. Job 1 called me today and offered the job. Tomorrow is the last day of work for the person they wanted to replace, so they needed a decision by the end of today. I called job 2 to check if they were close to making a decision and to see if I could get some indication of whether or not I would get the job, but they couldn't say anything more than they were still considering applicants. He did seem happy to hear from me though; he just couldn't talk long because he was busy with meetings. Since I didn't know if I would be getting another offer, I accepted job 1. The thing is, I would definitely prefer job 2. The pay is comparable, the advancement opportunities would be comparable and location is comparable. But the people at job 2 and the work I would be doing at job 2 were INFINITELY superior. So, my question is: If you were in my situation, what would you have done, and also if I do get offered job 2, would it make me a complete jack-hole to quit job 1 after just a couple days? Especially considering that they wanted their new hire to train with the previous worker, and that is no longer a possibility.

I'm not going to lie to you.

You'd be a complete "jack-hole" (your own words) for quitting Job 1 and putting them in a bind. But what it simply comes down to is you have to look out for yourself. With the way companies are these days, I really don't see why anyone would think any less of you for taking Job #2.

do what you want. if you take job at #1 you are going to upset because you did not take job #2. i would rather be happy then make someone else at job #1 happy.

take job 2, but make sure to give a good reason when quitting job 1 if you plan to list it as a reference when applying for later jobs.

Take Job 2. It's not even an ethical issue. Everyone for themselves.

yeap. loyailty is thing of the past (im sure there are places out there that it is still important). they will lay you off to boost the botom line.

Could they fire you in a second? Yes.

What ethics are you talking about? If it's only a couple days they haven't wasted too much money on you. Company A seems stupid...they risk doing that by giving you an exploding offer.
