I'll be staying in northern jersey this weekend and part of the time heading over into the city. I know a train depot nearby that I can park in , but they run a limited scehdule and on the return trip I'd need to catch a bus instead of the train when heading back once on the jersey side.

Should I /can I just drive to the hoboken station area to park and catch on there, or is there some train line that heads out to NJ that runs 24/7 (preferably in the northern direction).

if you wanna get carjacked or your car broken into or raped/mugged/assaulted.

Hoboken is safe, especially near the train station. My question is where would you park in Hoboken? The problem is that most of the mass transit from NJ to NYC is designed for commuters, and they mostly don't run all night. My suggestion is to just know when the last train is and don't miss it. (I've had to miss the end of Yankees games because of this).

My Co-worker would drive to the GWB on the jersey side, park and take one of those dollar vans or the bus to get to the city.

Per the train schedule I've seen (for the outlying tracks), the one I'm taking into nyc is the next to last one running, so not much chance in getting back early enough for a return trip.

That's actually pretty close to where I'm staying, but I found little on availability on transit up there, and with the late evening hours I'm moving not sure how long they'd be running.

i recommend parking in hoboken and taking the PATH train. there are big municipal parking buildings close to the PATH station on river st. i think. might be hudson st.

EDIT: where in the city are you going?

EDIT: there's also a big njtransit park & ride commuter parking lot in north bergen right outside the lincoln tunnel but i don't know its availability on the weekends.

I'm pretty sure the PATH is the only train that runs 24/7 between NYC to NJ. Also, parking sucks in Hoboken so good luck. You might just have to use one of the garages, which are not cheap.

there is also a ferry service across the hudson from weehawken to manhattan at 39th st. they have a bunch of times on the weekends up until 1 am even. they have free shuttle service from the ferry terminal to the main cross streets of manhattan but i don't know if the shuttles run on the weekends, though i think they probably do.

EDIT: and i believe there is a huge parking lot on the weehawken side.

EDIT: here is the parking lot and ferry on google maps

Where exactly in northern NJ are you going to be?

As someone pointed out, you could park near the GWB and utilize the buses there, however the buses do stop running around midnight on most nights leaving you to take a cab (probably "gypsy" cab if its late, which would run you about 20 bucks to cross the bridge). Good luck parking anywhere in Fort Lee that is relatively close to the GWB though.

Hoboken (or Jersey City) can be a good option due to the 24 hour service on the PATH. Again, parking is your enemy. I haven't been to Hoboken much since I lived there about 5 years back, but I'd be willing to wager that the parking situation near the PATH station is as bad, if not worse, than it always was. There are some pay lots/garages in the area though so YMMV. Jersey City can be a decent place to park and if you know the area, its pretty safe. I'd look for something around the Grove Street PATH (simply because I used to live in that area, I know that parking is not so bad on weekends, and its not a dangerous area at all) if I was thinking about going that route.

I'm not positive, but I don't think you're going to find very many (if any) trains running late on the weekends. You may find a few buses running, but I am always stuck driving or cabbing it if its going to be a late night. My friend insists that there are late buses to Rutherford, though, so this may very well depend on where in NJ you are staying.

If you're going to end up paying to park just to take the PATH, my suggestion is to drive into the city and just pay for parking there (if you can't find street parking) that way you avoid the issue. Seems like you're going to have to drive at the end of the night anyway so I have to assume that alcohol consumption is not an issue.

Anyway, if you provide more info I might be able to help more, otherwise good luck.

this is the best solution - trust me - I used to do this from Rockland county (just north of Bergen)

i might be looking in the wrong place but it looks like $7.75 each way for adults.

the extra $7.25 is the mandatory lube fee the rapist will charge.

I would love to just drive into the bronx and find a spot to park, but don't have enough time to spend just tooling around and looking for the first time.

As far as parking at a NJ side train depot, best details I've found so far is that the journal station is the best to park at (hoboken busiest on nights/weekends) and you can catch a 24hr path from there.

Journal Square has its own secure parking garage, and the PATH runs to/from NYC 24/7

This is your best bet.
