over a foot/ over 2 feet means nothing (education for the Californians)
Is it wet snow in NJ or light fluffy snow? It's 4 degrees out right now (western NY) - our total for the day is probably about a foot at this point.. The snow is super-light... a foot of this stuff is nothing. Traffic is still moving at the speed limit (+/- 5mph) But, if reports of getting rain on top of it is true, you must be getting some of the heavier stuff... backbreaking to shovel!

Don't the eskimos have like 20 different words for snow - each type of snow has a different name?
The education for you is that simply stating "snow" isn't enough to describe the impact 2 feet has.

It's kinda like sugar vs. cotton candy. Cotton candy: light and fluffy. Sugar : heavy and dense. We got a foot of the cotton candy here today. No problems whatsoever dealing with it. But, if we got a foot of heavy snow... that would have sucked.

Our cubic foot of snow, if melted, would be equal to about 1 or 2 cups of water. Heavy snow would yield more like a gallon of water per cubic foot.

my boss just called to tell us that we'll probably be stuck here in the office all night :(

apparantly they're not allowing cars on the roads.

that's stupid - should have told you all to go home before the storm hit.

ummm yes... because loki8481 has a job in which every employee can just up and leave, without giving it another thought :p

The weather sucks here in San Francisco too. It was about 50 or so this morning when I rode my bike by Ocean Beach. Freaking cold, even in direct sun.

8-9" outside my house in Jersey City. I gotta say that my 05 Maxima with VDC and Traction control is unreal. I took my car on a back road and tried to spin out, but the car wouldn't let me. So fvcking cool.:D

Thank god I have a treadmill. I hope that if there's any police cars patroling the place around here they'll be ok, I know how hard it is to drive in the dark with nothing but snow on the headlights. You literally can't see 3 feet in front of you.

American cars and their lack of wipers for the headlights! The sprayers you have for your windshields aren't even heated!

That's pretty sad, We've had at least 10 inches and the plows have been going through so all the roads are passable..

I remember when I drove to New York from Indiana, and NJ declared a state emergency because of all the snow...it got so we were the only ones on the road. Pretty nice actually, but you had to navigate just by steering where the trees weren't.

You think that's bad, try living here:

thanks, but I'd live in Antarctica if it meant I didn't have to put up with LA traffic and smog.
