New Jaguars(xf)

So I'm sitting around wondering what I would do if I made an extra 20-30k/year(possible) and I remember seeing the newish jaguar commercial and getting hot from hearing their motors. Personally I really like the way the new lineup looks, but seeing as how I'm not insanely wealthy it would be limited to an XF I imagine. Anyone have any experience with this car or any in the new lineup(2 years or so I think)?

I don't remember the last good thing I've heard about Jaguar so I'm just curious. Maybe I can trade in my '10 WRX towards a used one in a year or two 🙂

I looked at and drove the XF's. I almost bought one but the dealers just weren't flexible on price. They felt that Jaguar should command a premium. Well, they do command a premium... on the dealers lot where they sat month after month.

The 2011's had full complimentary service, like BMW, for 4 years I believe. For 2012 that was significantly reduced.

Nice cars. Bad residuals. Unmotivated dealers.

While I love those cars, and would seriously consider an R variant, there is no way in hell I'd buy one sans warranty or near the end of one. Plenty of info on finicky electronics (in either model) to keep me weary for the time being.

That being said the upcoming small 2-seater has me seriously interested!

Too bad they still haven't figured out how to make a reliable car. I think the XF is a great looking car (much better than the German equivalents for sure).

And even still, I'd take one of these in a heartbeat (not as an only car, though, not that brave):

That sucker is near the top of my personal list of best-looking cars ever built. Not bad as a ragtop, either.

Lame. Maybe I was spoiled with my WRX purchase. The place I got it from I was in/out in 20 minutes and it was 1400 cheaper than the place my family usually buys their subaru's from, which still has the cheapest price within a hundred miles.

I got a '10 wrx premium for 500 under invoice I think with zero silly fees.

I really don't want to deal with some douche dealerships.

heh I've driven a number of my brother's STis. I can't justify wasting that car on my 80ish total mile commute. I feel like I'm wasting my WRX as it is.

I'm not really digging how expensive subarus seem to be getting. Going from a 2010 to a 2012 is like 3-4 extra grand it seems.

If you enjoy driving it, it isn't wasted.

Subaru has become more popular lately, so the prices on all their models have gone up. There's a million of them up in New England.

Yea I do love the car to death. I'm just sad that I'm racking up 25k miles a year. I want to enjoy the car longer 🙁

Since you enjoy it, just buy another one when this one gets too worn out. Skip the Jag - you'll save yourself a bunch of money in the process, and stay with the car you know you like.

That is not a good looking car to me. For some reason reminds me of a long Datsun from the 80s LOL Maybe its just me.

I don't think you're going to find a way around cars getting more expensive.

250 on a 2.0, the Sonata turbo? Essentially the same motor as the Evo X, twin-scroll turbo. The WRX/STI use single scroll in USA, and their motor development seems to be lagging behind other companies anyways.

Yes the Sonata turbo. I was thinking that they had better step up their game given that Kias and hyundais are starting to nearly outpace them. I didn't know it was that same motor though. Hopefully they will make a new motor design, that would be pretty exciting.

I wouldn't really call Hyundai's "5.0" (not to be confused with Ford's 5.0) "weak horses", but eh.

I guessed their powerbands might be a little less fun or get fun at 5k+rpm or something, I'm just not familiar with how they could make that much power off of such a small motor/regular gas.

400+ hp out of a 5L gasoline engine is nothing special. We aren't in the 1980's anymore.

5 L is not small at all at this point. That's pretty massive for current cars.

My wife has an 80 mile round trip commute and loves her 2011 WRX. She's got snow tires on it right now, perfect for our Winter storm tomorrow that's supposed to dump 8".

All car prices are going up. You think $26-30k is expensive for a WRX? I was just reading about the new Mini Coupe. The reviewed car was $32k, for front-wheel drive and mid 6 second 0-60.

Which car is actually faster? :whiste:

Which grade gasoline it uses all depends on what the engine was tuned for. also, the Hyundai is probably a more advanced engine with direct injection, which can help turbos and higher compression. Your Subaru engine is a pretty old design and new ones are just coming out.

Mitsubishi has(had?) a 200HP/L engine available. That's on "normal" gasoline. No doubt 91 octane minimum for avoiding detonation.
