New ITX build for old ShuttleX SB61G2?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't until socket 1155 that Shuttle switched to MiniITX from their proprietary designs. There's very little chance you'll be able to fit another motherboard in there, as the proprietary designs were narrower.

I'm afraid you'll have to scrap it - but perhaps you want to build a similar system up in something like the Silverstone SG05: http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=210

Hi Termie, yeah, the chassis is 200mm w, so thought a 175mm ITX would fit in there, but guess it would be a bit ghetto as mobo holes wouldnt line up.....
What a ah heck....its such a nice aluminum case...

It might be possible to find an LGA775 mobo for it, but it would take some research. For instance, the SG31G2 had the same external dimensions, yet could support a Core2Quad. If a mobo could be found from a later unit like that, it is plausible the mounting hole pattern would be the same.

It's wider because it's dual slot. But the I/O cluster is narrower. So ITX couldn't even be inserted. It's not just an issue of mounting holes.

If you can make that back panel line up then you can drill new holes in the bottom and place new standoffs.

Yeah, the best that can probably be done is an LGA775, which actually is still really good for some things, like an HTPC.

The later cases are wider to accommodate the mini-ITX form factor. Mini-ITX won't fit in the old case without blowing a hole in the side of the box.

I love Shuttles and have been a fan since their beginning.

Unfortunately, VERY FEW models have interchangeable boards, and definitely not with ITX until 1155.

Just keep it around as some kind of mediaPC, MAME box, or server...
