Alright I just switched from BellSouth DSL to Charter Cable and ever since I cannot connect to mIRC.

I've done a bevy of things to fix this issue.

I've forwarded the proper ports.
I've given the main computer that connects to the router directly a static IP.
The problem occurs on a laptop that is wirelessly connected.
I've changed the MTU swtting on the main computer

The router I am using is the Netgear CG814GCMR on a 10MB connection.

Nothing seems to work. I connect for about 5-10 seconds and then get kicked off. Sometimes not even that long. I've tried working on different servers like Quakenet etc...still does it.

OS is Vista Home Premium for the laptop but the Main Comp is running XP Pro SP 3

With the laptop? No I didn't think that would solve it but I will try it.

Didn't cross my mind to do that.

Just a shot in the dark, but try changing your nickname to something completely random and see if you still get disconnected.

+1...you have connectivity to chat.collarme.com, just not a unique nick.

I registered that nick while on a DSL connection, would the connection type be a factor? Tried a random nick as well.

I looked on the mIRC forums about this issue and have done all they have suggested including uninstalling Windows Live services. Perhaps the Netgear router just doesn't play well with it?

try another irc server, if it works then your good and its just that server. if not its you.

As others have stated, your connected your just not getting a good nick.

you are connected though so this is 99.9% NOT the router.

Did that and this is what I got on AfterX

* Connecting to irc.afterx.net (6667)

-blargh.fl.us.afterx.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-blargh.fl.us.afterx.net- *** Couldn't resolve your hostname; using your IP address instead

Seems to work.
