I've been trying to get back into golf for a while. I grew up playing, but usually only a handful of times each year with my dad. I haven't had enough practice to be really good, but I started earlier enough that I have good form and a nice swing. I figured that it was time to invest in some irons, considering that I don't actually own any clubs.

Got these guys last night. Reviews look pretty good from what I've seen, and they look and feel badass.

Just thought I would share. Anyone else golf?

Sweet ... new clubs are always fun to play with. I got some new ones recently too, and although there is a bit of a learning curve to get used to them, they are soooo much better than my last set that was over 10 years old.

I started golfing last fall. I loved it. It is such a fun sport.

When I was in high school there was the golf team and I thought they were nerdy. I thought golf was stupid.

I purchased a set of irons over the winter. Taylormade R7's for my first set.

They are decent.

Unfortunately my golf partner, my nephew cant keep a job so he cant play. I dont know any one else to play with.

My wife had a baby this summer so I havent been able to play because the wife wanted to save money the months leading up to the birth.

I think I got on the course 3 times this year. Im very disappointed.

Yeah... hopefully I get a chance to go soon. Of course this will probably be the last nice weekend here (Seattle).

My plan is to go to the range fairly consistently through winter and hopefully be someone ready for spring :)

You're probably right (about the weather) maybe I'll go dust mine off and go wack a bucket or 2 today.

I've always liked nickent clubs. My favorite club in my bag is a Nickent 3 wood with a bimatrix shaft, it's about 8 years old. I'd never part with it. The shaft is a pretty stiff graphite but the last 1/4th of the shaft near the head is steel.

I'm actually getting ready to build a set of my own irons, already been fitted on a launch monitor so I know what I need.

And before anybody yells at you, I hope you got to hit some balls with the clubs before you bought them.

Well they do look cool. I've actually never heard of nickent and I know all the golf brands I thought.

I'm still using clubs from the 80s...don't have any money or play nearly enough to upgrade. Someday...

Not to nit pick, but why did you go with a graphite shaft? Do you have a low swing speed or are you a senior?

I just don't know very much about golf so I went purely by reviews and what others were recommending. I sat down for a couple hours with a friend who is a scratch golfer and he helped me choose clubs that he thought would be good for me. That being said, I don't think he knows his stuff THAT well, but good enough to send me in the right direction (I hope?).

We didn't discuss the type of shaft that much, but he told me that I should be using regular flex for whatever reason.

Even if I do need a different type of shaft, I imagine that's something I'll do down the road. I'm not worried about little stuff at the moment, just getting back into the game... That is, unless this type of shaft would be totally unsuitable for me... Would it?

I'm 24, 5'11. I don't try and kill it, I worry about technique, not sure if that makes any difference or not :)

Edit: Reading this makes it sound like there really won't be a big drawback for going graphite. If I had read that article before getting the clubs, I would have definitely chosen graphite. What makes you lean towards steel?

Well these seem to be marketed as "game improvement irons". The lighter shaft, high offset, lower angle should help you a lot. If you can "feel" the clubhead lagging behind on your swing or you block the ball right then it's too much flex. Enjoy your new toys and hit 'em straight.

And just a word on shafts - there is no standard at all. One manufacturer's regular is another's stiff and everywhere in between.

Yeah, that was the main reason we went with em. They seem to be rather forgiving, hopefully :)

Thanks for the tips, I'll report back after I start getting into it!
