ipods are cheaper (300 compared to around 400)
ipods have games and can read text, use as alarm clock
ipods are smaller by a little

ihp-100 has twice the battery life of ipod... 16 hours (compared to 8)
ihp-100 can encode audio to mp3
ihp-100 has fm tuner
ihp-100 has lcd remote

what do you guys think? i think i'll still get the ihp-100... games... i know i will never play those... text and alarm clock, there is the possibility that iriver can add those as firmware (they are really good about putting out new features in firmware imo). battery life is important! fm tuner is plus too. i think it's worth the extra $100. and it doesn't look weird like the ipod (sorry, but i just dont' like the look... too white). also i've heard complaints about having to edit the tags for mp3s before they are put on the ipod? i have no idea if this is true, but if so, that would suck.

btw i have heard rumors of ogg support in a future firmware upgrade

the $300 is 10 gb. if you pay $400, then you get 15 gb, but then you lose the price advantage.

With the student discount, the 15gb is $369... isn't the iRiver $415? This is still a $45 price difference and an extra 5gb's.

iirc, ipods have at least 10hrs battery charge (however, that sometimes turns out to be up to 13hrs)
of course, that was first-gen, the new ipods may have a smaller battery.

ok i was looking at retail prices... you can't really compare special prices yet because the ihp-100 hasn't even been released yet, so we don't know what the special prices for that will be. there will probably be some deals for the irivers, just fyi.

I like the FM Tuner on the iRiver just wish it were closer to $200 for a 10GB version.

yea, i wish they were cheaper too, but i figure i can either pay ~300+ and get a mp3 player that is slightly lacking, or i can spend ~400 and get an mp3 player that is close to perfect... i dunno, i think it's worth it to have a better mp3 player, because little things like the lcd remote and fm tuning really please me

I wonder if any B&M's will carry the iRiver, if it REALLY blows off my socks it might be worth getting.

I can only HOPE that BB carries it, wait for another 10% off coupon to be mailed and that's an instant $40 off.
