new ipods at apple.com

I was very tempted. Especially with the educational price. I also realized that the 15 gig is a much better deal than the 10 gig. The stupid remote is 40 bucks by itself. The case is also ~40 (tho you prolly wouldn't use it) and ditto for the dock. Probably worth the extra 100 :|

how many times do you really need to transfer 10G + of mp3s to the ipod? you probably only have to do that once after you use it for the first time.

i think the 10 g is a much better deal especially for only 270

who cares about the docking station unless you don't have firewire connection.

who cares about the case, that case is so freaking ungly

and who needs that remote control. if i have an ipod, i want to take it out and show it off. (ok, some of you might augue against that). but i think one of the coolest thing about ipod is the ipod design itself.

i'll so get in on the new ipod if i didn't already bought a mp3 player for my t68i.

I'm thinking about getting the 15GB version. $319 after the Apple developer discount. I think the dock/remote/extra 5GB is worth the extra cost, at least for me it is.

Isn't the price of joining the Apple Developer Club like 100 bucks?

So wouldn't you be losing money?

Or are you already part of it and they still get benefits?

Cuz my friend across the hall recently got the 17' Powerbook and saved a lot by using the ADC discount but he said it was a one time only thing.

You can buy "accessories" for any mac you purchase through the ADC program at the discounted prices, but only regular ADC members (non-student program members) have this option. If you join the ADC student program, you get a 1 time only discount.

when the 30GB is on dell.com, this will be a hot deal. but for now, the price is just too damn high. why not get the Creative Zen?

That would be great, but Dell stopped selling Ipods.

Edit:
What? They're back now. COOL!

The Zen is a Brick compared to the Ipods, and the buttons are arranged HORRIBLY, and the screen is sooo much smaller and less vivd than the Ipod. I researched these things HARD before I broke down and bought my 20Gig Ipod. But I just sold it today to a friend and now it's time forthe new and improved (and smaller) unit..

These things just plain ROCK

Am I assuming correctly that right now only Apple.com is selling them?

Dell resigned...you WILL see ipods soon...(Apple caved on the contractual changes...Frys and several others signed too...Target still is leaving though)

Aren't the Creative Lab Zens have SUPERIOR sound to the Ipods?

Isn't that what really matters?..........

What contractual changes?

Ummm...no way to recharge it without the cradle. I think I'll hang on to my 20 gigger for a little longer. 🙂

EDIT: I was wrong. They do have a cable that plugs into that wide port on the bottom, both for FW and USB2... Very interesting.

Ooooo...and look at this:

Size and weight (20GB model): Height: 4.0 in; Width: 2.4 in; Depth: 0.84 in; Weight: 7.2 oz
Size and weight (30GB model): Height: 4.1 in; Width: 2.4 in; Depth: 0.73 in; Weight: 6.2 oz
Size and weight (15GB model): Height: 4.1 in; Width: 2.4 in; Depth: 0.62 in; Weight: 5.6 oz

The Zens supposedly have a slightly Higher S/N ratio but since I LISTENED to both units, I was still more impressed with the Ipods. hey really are works of art, vs Creative's "identical buttons everywhere" philosophy.

Apple's in a lawsuit with a few smaller shops in cali over lack of support... (* mostly doing warentee issues and things like that in a timely manner) this year as a result Apple's bored lawyers on re-sign for Apple Reseller Authorization re-wrote the thing to make Apple less sueable for not doing its job. (imagine lots of added "We hold no responsibility..." clauses on things they shouldn't be trying....) a large group of more powerful resellers (like Fry's and Dell, Target) flat out didn't sign it and let their status lapse (or at least come close) Apple caved in the end *IMHO* probably due to Target backing out of the talks and just dumping ipods....

After Apple caved Dell, Fry's and most everyone else resigned under more usual terms.

This is why for the previous 2-3 weeks you could not buy an ipod from Dell...but you can right now (go search...only the old 20gig is listed but that should change after backstock is gone)

can also be used as a HD on the PC....

I have a 20gb windows model now, and I use Xplay from Mediafour (http://www.mediafour.com)
The interface is much better than musicmatch jukebox, IMO...

I have a 30 gb that should ship out to me by weeks end 😉

I buy a lot of stuff that I expect to use, but ends up gathering dust. I use my ipod everyday. nothing comes close.

Just ordered a 30GB ipod through Dell for $428. Not on their website yet but it is sku'd in the system. You have to call in.

I read on Apple's website that the new ipods will have calendar/address book capabilities. The website said this is only available for the apple ipods. Does anyone know if you can somehow get the same functionality on a windows Ipod? That would be sweet to have both in one. thanks
