New iPod

And it plays Solitaire!!! 😛

Anyways, I'll probably buy one once it hits 40 GB. I already have 30 GB of MP3, and that's not even counting the classical CDs which I haven't converted to MP3 yet.

I thought that they annouced 40gb ones at $499...could be wrong though hehe. Kind of bummed that the Music Service won't be available for PC for a couple months.

In addition new iPods were released. "Apple?s third-generation iPods ? 10GB model for $299 (US), 15GB for $399 and 30GB for $499 ? hold up to 7,500 songs. They feature solid-state navigation wheel and buttons; new dock with audio out; ?On-The-Go? playlist; customizable main menu; and Auto-Sync for automatically syncing your computer?s music library with iPod."

Got the music service up an running on my Powermac this morning. Needless to say it kicks ass as far as I'm concerned. Download songs for 99 cents a piece or download entire albums for $9.99. So far the collection of titles is vast, I have really had to reach to find titles they don't have.

You Windows users will have to sit back and drool for a bit, if your lucky Apple will make iTunes for Windows available along with the music service.

Do they offer a lot of non mainstream stuff? Say all the different types of Trance?

Don't know what Trance is myself. Did a search for it and came up with a list of artists/groups. IMO Apple has done a great job getting artists and groups across all genres of music. I listen to a mixture of classic rock, rock, a little popular, jazz, and some classical. Apple seems to have it all.

The new iPods look so sweet. I read somewhere that iTunes for Windows would be released "by the end of the year". Apple states that the iTunes music service will be available for Windows, and since it's integrated into the iTunes interface, one would expect them to just release iTunes for Windows. I'm definetly looking forward to all of the cool new music technology that Apple is bringing.

My only complaint is that the iPod still doesn't play ogg files.

The new iPod is really nice, but check out the price drop on their GORGEOUS 23" LCD from $3499 to $1999!!! That is freakin' AWESOME! I love that damn thing! Must get Power Mac VERY soon! 🙂

addragyn, thanks for the link; however, for only ~$100, I'd rather have a new monitor. But if they are really coming out with a 30" LCD, I might wait. A 30" LCD would be just damn AWESOME! Forget my TV in the living room, I'll get a nice Herman Miller Aeron chair and watch movie at my computer desk! 😀

You're Welcome. I agree the savings isn't much. The new pricing is much more aggressive so I doubt the refurbs will be spoting any signifigant discount.

Remember the 30" panel is just a rumor right now. I have found the resale value on all the Apple stuff I've sold to be phenomenal. I've actually made money on a few things and broken even with almost everything else. My PC gear on the other hand...

Anyway, the price is not a main concern for me, but do consider this:
How can you listen to 40gb of songs continuously?
Whatz the point of ripping the classic CD into a ipod/
Americans are being too entertained

I agree 100%. Americans suck because the iPod holds 40GB

Gee, how do you listen to your collection of cds/vinyl continuously (if you have a collection of cds/vinyl)? Can't help but say that's a pretty stupid question.

Well, first off the biggest iPod is 30, not 40, gigs and while I probably wouldn't listen to 30gigs of music continuously it's much easier to carry around an iPod containing my entire CD collection than it is to carry around my entire CD collection.

I'm with Mr. 40 GB man, onto other things.

<RANT>The competition with the iPod sucks, in fact a lot of the competition with most Mac products from a coolness factor sucks. But in the iPod category none of the other HD based MP3 players interest me. If they had smaller ones that looked as good I might consider a non-iPod HD player.</RANT>

You don't have to get a mac to use apples monitors. A relatively inexpensive little adapter will let you use the Cinema displays or any ADC monitor with your regular windows PCs (with DVI port).

On the iPod topic, if you're going to use the windows version, you *have* to get Xplay. It is so much better than using just Musicmatch that I can't even begin to explain how much better it is. I don't know if they'll improve they're regular bundle or not with the new versions, but I have the regular 10gb windows version, and I wouldn't go back to using it without Xplay.
