New iPod Shuffle and PC MP3 files...

Just bought iPod Shuffle for son... Two issues...

* First time, iTunes seemed to transfer my existing PC MP3 files to the Shuffle... but would not play. I then was told I had to convert them to 'acc' (sic) format, which I then tried to do. iTunes would not convert them... (We do have latest version of iTunes)

* Also, the cable provided to charge and sync the Shuffle to my PC seems defective.... the connection to the Shuffle is very loose... When the unit is turned on, then connected to my PC, the green light on the Shuffle comes on briefly, and then shuts off.... and then does not show up as a connected device...or, if it does show up, it is listed as an HP 'smart device'.... what the heck is going on?

Help, please...

Thanks

You shouldn't have to re-encode to AAC. There might be a problem with iTunes, I would try reinstalling iTunes and then trying to update the Shuffle.

You need to transfer them through iTunes. iPods do not support drag and drop

I'm at a loss. My audio MP3 files will not transfer over to the Shuffle. I must be missing something.

OK.

The MP3s are in iTunes.
The Shuffle is plugged in.
The Shuffle appears in the sidebar in iTunes.

If none of these are true, there is a problem, if all are true, moving on.

You can do one of the following;
Drag the files (from within iTunes) over to the Shuffle (in the sidebar)
Click on the shuffle and tell it to sync all, or checked stuff. You can point it to specific playlists and all that.*

*This sort of things works with full sized, screened iPods but I have never had a shuffle so i cannot be positive.
